Martha Stewart has claimed that she was an original trad-wife long before this term surged in popularity on social media.
During a recent guest appearance on Molly Sims’ podcast Lipstick on the Rim, which she co-hosts with Emese Gormley, the 84-year-old business icon reflected on her remarkable journey as one of America’s first self-made female billionaires. Stewart expressed her ability to relate to the everyday woman.
“I was the every woman. I don’t call housekeeping, I call it homekeeping,” she stated. “I really was that woman. I now have a new term that I just learned, I was the trad-wife. I was the original trad-wife.”
Tradwives, short for traditional wives, are women who embrace femininity and prioritize caring for their families and homes over pursuing a career, according to the Darling Academy, a British website. They embody a lifestyle that values family and home without being subservient.

Stewart reminisced about the day her company went public, saying, “The day I went public, I was a very, very rich woman. And that was fun. I drove up Madison Avenue and I said, ‘Oh gosh, I could actually buy anything on this street.’” This moment marked a significant milestone in her life and career.
