Trump Issues Ultimatum to Hamas on Peace Plan Acceptance

President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that the Hamas terrorist organization has been given a deadline of three to four days to accept his new 20-point peace plan aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. Failure to comply, Trump warned, would lead to a “very sad end” for Hamas.

During a press conference, Trump stated, “We’re going to do about 3 or 4 days. We’ll see how it is. Now, all of the Arab countries are signed up. The Muslim countries all signed up. Israel’s all signed up.” His remarks underscored the broad support for the proposal from multiple nations in the region.

Trump made it clear that the ball is now in Hamas’s court: “And Hamas is either going to be doing it or not. And if it’s not, it’s going to be a very sad end,” he emphasized.

Trump’s 20-Point Peace Plan Unveiled

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his support for the initiative on Monday, which aims to bring an end to military operations against Hamas, disarm the organization, secure the release of hostages, and establish a roadmap for rebuilding Gaza after extensive devastation.

Reports have confirmed that top officials from Qatar and Egypt engaged with Hamas negotiators regarding the U.S.-backed plan. These officials indicated that Hamas would review the proposal in good faith and respond appropriately.

The peace initiative has garnered significant endorsement from leaders across the Middle East, Europe, and parts of Asia. It addresses critical security concerns for Israel, including proposals to thwart the forced displacement of Palestinians and to prevent further annexation of the West Bank.

A joint statement from several Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Pakistan, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt, welcomed Trump’s peace proposal. The statement praised the plan as a step toward rebuilding Gaza while assuring that it considers Israel’s security needs.

The statement read, “The ministers affirm their readiness to engage positively and constructively with the United States and the parties toward finalizing the agreement and ensuring its implementation, in a manner that ensures peace, security, and stability for the peoples of the region.” This expression of support shows a collective willingness to work toward lasting peace.

Mixed Reactions in Israel

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Opposition leader Yair Lapid praised Trump’s proposal, stating that amidst various interests and a pressing timeline influenced by the hostage situation, this is the only plan that shows practical feasibility. This division within the Israeli political landscape highlights the complexities surrounding the peace negotiations.

Benny Gantz, leader of the Blue and White Party, also supported Lapid’s stance, affirming that his party would not allow “petty politics to sabotage the plan.” This coalition of support among opposition leaders indicates a desire for stability amidst challenges.

International Endorsements

Internationally, the plan has attracted attention from various leaders. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron have both praised Trump’s proposal. Notably, they have expressed recognition of Palestinian statehood, despite the opposition from Washington. This diplomatic shift signifies changing attitudes toward Palestinian independence amid ongoing global discussions about the conflict.

As the deadline for Hamas to respond approaches, many are left wondering how this situation will unfold and whether the proposed peace plan can achieve its intended goals. Tensions remain high as all involved parties anticipate the next steps. The outcome of this ultimatum may reshape the future of Gaza and the broader Middle East.
