Police in Santa Rosa have launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a well-known manager of a prominent San Francisco strip club. Authorities discovered the victim early on Friday, October 3, lying unresponsive on a roadway near the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.

Shortly before 6:30 a.m., the Santa Rosa Police Department received a 911 call regarding an unresponsive male, leading officers to the scene. Upon arrival, they found the deceased male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Identification of the Victim

The Sonoma County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Mark Calcagni, 60, a longtime resident of Santa Rosa and the manager of the Condor Club, a landmark in the city’s nightlife. Investigators reported that Calcagni was found approximately 350 feet from his home.

Police Investigation and Community Safety

As of now, authorities have not made any arrests and have yet to locate any suspects or weapons. Although the police state that the public is not considered to be in immediate danger, the individuals responsible for this crime remain at large.

Mark Calcagni’s Legacy in Nightlife

Calcagni was a significant figure in San Francisco’s nightlife scene. Serving as the general manager of the Condor Club, it is often recognized as the nation’s first topless bar. He also managed another adult entertainment venue, Vanity San Francisco.

Wolfgang Welch, who recently assumed management responsibilities at Vanity, expressed admiration for Calcagni, calling him a larger-than-life figure within the adult entertainment industry.

“He became one of the Mount Rushmores of Broadway,” Welch stated, highlighting Calcagni’s influence in the area.

Tributes from the Community

The Condor Club confirmed Calcagni’s passing in a statement to Fox News Digital, conveying their deep sorrow and shock over the loss.

“It is with profound sorrow and deep shock that we confirm the tragic death of our beloved general manager, Mark Calcagni,” the statement read. “Mark was more than our manager — he was the heartbeat of Condor Club and an integral figure in the North Beach and San Francisco nightlife community.”

The club also expressed that Calcagni’s dedication and leadership significantly shaped the establishment’s identity.
