Reflecting on a Nobel Peace Prize Nomination for President Trump
On January 29, 2025, I reached out to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, driven by a sense of urgency. This was just days after President Donald J. Trump’s inauguration and just ahead of the Committee’s deadline on January 31. My decision to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize was not made lightly.
Although some critics deemed my nomination premature, they overlooked a crucial aspect of President Trump’s efforts. My nomination was deeply connected to the successful release of hostages, a situation demonstrating his unwavering commitment to diplomacy in one of the world’s most turbulent regions.

As a law professor and an American-Israeli, I felt a personal obligation to nominate him. I have witnessed firsthand the alarming rise of antisemitism and the escalating threats against my community.
