Popular actress Kirsten Storms, known for her role on General Hospital, recently announced that she is preparing to undergo surgery for a brain aneurysm. The revelation is a concerning update for her fans, as it follows her prior brain surgery in 2021 to address a noncancerous cyst that caused various symptoms.
In her heartfelt Instagram post, Storms shared that during a follow-up scan this year, her neurosurgeon identified an aneurysm on the right side of her brain. This discovery came as a shock, and she admitted feeling “majorly freaked out” about the diagnosis. The actress humorously reflected on her health challenges, noting that it feels as if “my brain seems to be sorta lowkey rebelling against me.”
The condition, which affects many individuals, can pose significant health risks. According to medical experts, aneurysms are bulges in blood vessels that have the potential to leak or rupture. Such events can lead to severe complications, including life-threatening bleeding and brain damage.
To treat her condition, Storms revealed that a procedure was performed where doctors threaded a camera from her leg up to her brain. While she described the process as routine, she noted that it involved a complex pathway through her body, adding an element of intensity to her experience. She explained that the camera even traveled through her armpit, highlighting the unusual route taken.
Unfortunately, due to some complexities associated with her aneurysm, doctors were unable to coil the aneurysm during that initial procedure. Endovascular coiling is a known method that involves placing platinum coils into the aneurysm to promote clotting and block blood flow. This technique plays a crucial role in mitigating the risk of rupture.
Storms mentioned that her surgery is slated to happen within the next two weeks. Currently, she is residing with her close friend and former General Hospital co-star Emme Rylan. Together in St. Louis, Missouri, they are utilizing this time to support one another. Rylan had previously stood by Storms during her 2021 recovery, reinforcing the strength of their friendship.
During this waiting period, Storms and Rylan are engaging in a creative project, crocheting beautiful sweaters while preparing for the upcoming surgery. Their collaboration extends beyond companionship; they have also recently launched a sweater collection named KickinIt.
Earlier this year, Storms announced her decision to take a hiatus from the long-standing ABC soap opera to relocate to Nashville, Tennessee. This was a significant change for the actress, who has portrayed her character Maxie Jones since 2005. In her Instagram updates, she expressed that her health concerns were a factor motivating her move, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing her physical and mental well-being.
Stress is known to contribute to several health issues, including brain aneurysms and cysts. Storms reflected on her recent health struggles in her posts, stating that it was evident she needed to make life adjustments. “Aneurysms can be caused by stress,” she wrote, acknowledging the challenges she’s faced since her January scan showed a new cyst on her brain stem.
Storms articulated her reasoning for departing from Los Angeles, asserting that it deeply mattered to her for personal reasons. While relocating was primarily motivated by her daughter Harper, 11, the actress also noted her physical and mental health played vital roles in the decision. “For my own personal reasons, no longer living in Los Angeles was very important to me,” Storms shared, revealing her desire for a happier lifestyle.
In her post, Storms conveyed a sense of vulnerability while also focusing on the importance of health and happiness. She expressed a desire to connect with her followers during this challenging time, emphasizing a shared human experience in facing tough moments. She used her platform to champion personal health decisions, urging others to prioritize their well-being whenever possible.
Amid the challenges, she addressed and dispelled harmful rumors that had circulated online about her health status. Shortly after her hospitalization, a blog post incorrectly suggested that she was hospitalized due to suicidal tendencies. Storms understandably found this allegation distressing, stating, “I couldn’t understand why a person would make up something that terrible.”
In her message, Storms recognized the impact of such false narratives, expressing gratitude for the supportive people in her life. She reiterated the importance of community and connection, noting that a few “really bad apples” do exist, but she is appreciative of genuine friendships.
With an optimistic outlook, Storms concluded her heartfelt message by encouraging her followers to pursue what is best for themselves and their loved ones. Acknowledging the fear and uncertainty surrounding her diagnosis, she expressed hope for healing and a brighter future. “If we can, we will do our best to do what is best for ourselves and loved ones,” she declared, leaving her audience with a sense of resilience and determination in the face of adversity.
