Authorities in Macomb County, Michigan, are actively searching for a suspect involved in the attempted murder of a prominent businessman who narrowly escaped a daylight ambush outside his home this past Tuesday morning.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office reported that the shooting occurred around 10:18 a.m. on October 14. Eddie Jawad was leaving his gated residence located on 24 Mile Road, close to Wellington Valley Drive in Macomb Township.
According to investigators, the shooter had been surveilling the property for over an hour before the attack.
“Someone was lying in wait for him,” stated Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido. “They entered the location, waited for him, and then began firing at his vehicle as he exited his driveway. This happened in broad daylight in a family-oriented neighborhood. He’s fortunate to have survived.”
Surveillance footage captured the suspect’s presence at the intersection of 24 Mile and Wellington Valley at 8:22 a.m., before entering Jawad’s property around 9:30 a.m. Prosecutor Lucido noted that Jawad was grazed by a bullet during the shooting but thankfully survived.
Authorities reported that the suspect fled eastward on 24 Mile Road driving a black Ford Escape, model years 2020 to 2022, which carried a stolen license plate. Descriptions released indicate the gunman is a thin Black male, approximately between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office Detective Bureau at 586-307-9358.
Prosecutor Lucido highlighted Jawad’s resilient spirit after facing such a traumatic experience.
“Eddie went home that night, had dinner with his family, and reported back to work the next morning,” Lucido remarked. “It’s not in his nature to hide. The good Lord spared him, and he is determined to continue doing his work.”
Jawad owns Pit Stop gas stations and convenience stores, a Michigan-based chain with over two dozen locations. Additionally, he is involved in restaurants, property development, rentals, and refining businesses.
Lucido praised Jawad as a self-made entrepreneur and a model of local success.
“He’s a respected figure in the community,” Lucido added. “He worked in a gas station during his youth — look at what he has built today. He owns probably 25 to 30, maybe even 40 gas stations. His story is one of rising from humble beginnings, boldness, and unwavering commitment to quality.”
Moreover, Lucido characterized Jawad as possessing a heart of gold who openly shares his views while giving back to his community.
The ambush left many in the neighborhood in shock, given its tranquil and upscale nature.
“This isn’t a dark alley in a risky part of town,” Lucido emphasized. “This is a peaceful neighborhood where families reside. People choose to live here because of the schools, churches, and shops. They expect safety and tranquility, not gunfire erupting outside their homes.”
The investigation team is meticulously analyzing neighborhood doorbell and surveillance cameras and maintains confidence that the individual responsible will be apprehended.
“There’s no justification for resorting to violence in Macomb County,” stated Lucido. “If issues arise, they should be resolved legally. Attempting to take a life is wholly unacceptable. Whoever is responsible for this will face serious consequences.”
Lucido reiterated his office’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards violent crime.
“We will uphold the law and maintain order,” he declared. “Those who disregard the laws will have to answer to me.”
Describing Jawad’s survival as miraculous, Lucido stated, “When you watch that video — seeing how he avoided death — it prompts the question of how he managed to escape. He essentially dodged the bullets. It’s nothing short of a miracle.”
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation, with Lucido confident that justice will be served.
“Eddie is fortunate to be alive,” Lucido concluded. “This type of violence is unacceptable in Macomb County and anywhere else.”
