Additionally, authorities have arrested around 485,000 illegal immigrants since Trump took office.

McLaughlin emphasized that this represents “just the beginning.” She noted that Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem have revitalized an agency that faced significant challenges and limitations in the previous four years.

McLaughlin pointed out that illegal immigrants are responding to the government’s directive to leave or face consequences. She highlighted a remarkable 99.99 percent decline in migration through the Darien Gap, a crucial route for many migrants heading to the U.S.

Just this past weekend, the Department of Homeland Security announced ongoing operations targeting the “worst of the worst” criminals among illegal immigrants in the country, even amid the current government shutdown. Throughout the weekend, DHS arrested individuals convicted of several serious crimes, including child rape, assault, kidnapping, and more.

Among those apprehended was Erick Xavier Romero, a Dominican national, who the agency reports was convicted of child rape in Boston. Another individual, Guatemalan national German Osvaldo Cortez-Chajon, faced arrest for attempting to engage in unlawful sexual acts with a minor in Alabama. Furthermore, Mexican national Graciano Lopez-Flores was taken into custody in North Carolina following charges related to indecent liberties with a child.

High-Profile Arrests Illustrate Commitment to Immigration Enforcement

ICE’s operations extend beyond these cases. In North Carolina, they arrested Shahed Hassan from Bangladesh, who has a history of crimes including assault and multiple drug-related offenses. Just north, Van Pham from Laos was apprehended with convictions related to abduction and burglary. These actions reflect the administration’s commitment to public safety and immigration enforcement.

In Massachusetts, Patricia Pimental-Cordero, a Dominican national convicted of hit-and-run charges, was also arrested, as was Ramona Mercado-Vasquez from Dominica, in New Jersey, who has a history of kidnapping and robbery.

In Wisconsin, ICE arrested Mexican national Karlett Zagal-Salazar, a documented drug trafficker. These arrests demonstrate a focused effort on apprehending individuals with criminal backgrounds.
