Archaeologists in Turkey have made significant discoveries, unearthing over 60 ancient tombs in Colossae, a city prominent in biblical history as highlighted in the New Testament.
According to a report from Anadolu Agency, a state-run media outlet in Ankara, this remarkable find was announced on October 6. Colossae, located in the Aegean region, lies in the scenic foothills of Mount Honaz.
This city is chiefly recognized for its early Christian community, to which St. Paul addressed his Epistle to the Colossians—a key text in the New Testament.
Although the ancient city dates back to the 6th century B.C., it faced a decline in influence following a devastating earthquake in the 1st century A.D.
Despite rebuilding efforts initiated in the 7th century, Colossae witnessed another catastrophic earthquake that led to its eventual abandonment in 787.
