In the wake of President Donald Trump’s recent executive orders, several states are making significant strides to introduce legislation that bans transgender medical care for minors. Legal experts describe these developments as a continuation of previous efforts made in various states to resist what they perceive as the Biden administration’s progressive policies on gender identity.
Since 2020, multiple states have been proactive in enacting laws aimed at restricting transgender healthcare for minors. According to Matt Sharp, senior counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, Idaho was the first to pass a law safeguarding women’s sports. Following Idaho’s lead, Arkansas became a pioneer in protecting children from what some refer to as dangerous gender transition treatments, including hormone therapies and surgical procedures.
“Over the past few years, we have witnessed over 25 states adopt similar measures,” Sharp stated in an interview. “These measures aim to protect women’s rights, privacy, and safety in schools, shelters, and correctional facilities.
