Aaron Reitz, a prominent figure in former President Donald Trump’s administration, has stepped down from his role at the Department of Justice to pursue a campaign for attorney general of Texas. He describes this move as a crucial fight for the very essence of Texas.
The former Marine also served as chief of staff to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas). He held the position of assistant attorney general for the Office of Legal Policy under U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.
After weeks of speculation about his potential candidacy, Reitz formally announced his campaign for one of Texas’s most influential positions following his resignation on Wednesday. He made it clear that for him, winning Texas is not just about state politics.
“If we lose Texas, we lose the Republic,” Reitz stated in a message distributed to Fox News Digital, emphasizing the broader implications of his campaign.
In his announcement, Reitz articulated a vision that resonates with conservative voters. He claimed that this is not the time for half-hearted efforts or those untested in political battle. His rhetoric reflects a combative stance as he declared, “We are in a fight for the soul of Texas, our nation, and Western civilization itself.”
Promising a vigorous agenda, he stated, “As Attorney General, I’ll use every ounce of legal firepower to defend President Trump, crush the radical Left, advance the America and Texas First agenda, and look out for everyday Texans.” This narrative positions him as a champion of traditional values, rallying support among his base.
Reitz’s announcement comes as Texas current Attorney General Ken Paxton also aims for a higher office, hoping to succeed Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) in what is expected to be a fiercely contested primary race.
In his campaign strategy, Reitz vowed to closely collaborate with the Trump administration. He pledged to tackle the ongoing border crisis, initiate mass deportations, enhance border security, and combat district attorneys supported by billionaire philanthropist George Soros.
Furthermore, he emphasized his dedication to eradication of progressive influences, proclaiming plans to end woke indoctrination, investigate and eliminate election fraud, and defend constitutional rights unapologetically.
With his robust conservative credentials, Reitz is poised to attract endorsements from influential Republicans across the nation. Since his resignation, he has received heartfelt farewells from officials at the DOJ, including Pam Bondi, who noted his vital contributions to their mission of prioritizing safety in America.
In a recent post on X, Bondi expressed pride in working alongside Reitz: “Aaron played a central role in our work to Make America Safe Again. His next chapter will surely contribute to President Trump’s mission.”
FBI Director Kash Patel also applauded Reitz, labeling him a personal friend and a dedicated advocate for law and order. “Thanks for serving our country, now it’s time to deliver on his next mission,” Patel commented, wishing him well in his political endeavors.
Before joining the Trump administration and working with Senator Cruz, Reitz served as Texas Deputy Attorney General for Legal Strategy under Ken Paxton. His tenure in that capacity positioned him at the heart of critical legal efforts in Texas.
In December, Paxton recognized Reitz’s contributions, calling him “a proven and effective fighter for our Constitution and American Values.” He noted that Reitz played a crucial role in aggressive legal actions on issues ranging from border security to election integrity.
Reitz’s political ambitions may rival other candidates like Texas Republican State Senator Mayes Middleton, who also stands as a pro-Trump conservative in the race.
As the campaign progresses, Reitz will need to navigate the complexities of Texas politics while appealing to a diverse electorate. His message is clear, yet it remains to be seen how it resonates beyond the traditional conservative base.
Engaging with voters, addressing their concerns, and presenting a well-rounded platform will be vital for his success as he moves forward in this high-stakes race. Given the current political climate, all eyes will be on Reitz as he seeks to carve out his place in the landscape of Texas politics.
