Abigail Spanberger Seeks Your Support in Virginia’s Governor Race

In May, I visited a family-owned pharmacy in Hanover County, a region that significantly supported President Donald Trump in the 2024 election. This bustling area served as the backdrop for my initiative addressing the rising costs of healthcare and prescription drugs, an issue that resonates deeply with many Virginians.

During the visit, I interacted with local pharmacists, students, and a mother whose daughter is fighting cancer. Surrounded by reporters, I unveiled my plan aimed at providing real relief to families facing financial strain from medical expenses. The excitement in the crowd included individuals sporting red T-shirts, Make America Great Again hats, and Trump campaign buttons, showcasing the diverse political landscape in Virginia.

One conversation stood out, particularly with a local Tea Party member. What began as lighthearted banter about our political affiliations soon evolved into a serious discussion about genuine challenges affecting families. This father expressed his distress over his daughter losing healthcare benefits, alongside a growing stack of unpaid medical bills.

Our dialogue highlighted a pressing concern shared among numerous constituents — the skyrocketing costs of medical care. This issue continues to haunt families, veterans, seniors, and young people throughout Virginia as they seek stability amid soaring expenses.

The Ripple Effect of Rising Costs

Healthcare expenses are not the only worries keeping Virginians awake at night. Across the commonwealth, I frequently encounter proactive citizens expressing anxiety over the overwhelming cost of living. Increasing rental prices, mortgage payments, energy bills, and prescription drug costs are stretching budgets to their limits. Working Virginians deserve leadership that prioritizes their well-being and actively seeks solutions to ease this financial burden.

As we approach Election Day, I am embarking on a comprehensive road tour. Over the next 11 days, I will conduct more than 40 stops across the state, from Lee County, known as the gateway to Virginia, to Leesburg. I will engage with voters in Norfolk and Nelson County, all while emphasizing the importance of this election. Virginia is at a crossroads, with the chance to choose leadership committed to prioritizing the state’s needs over partisan interests.

Plans to Address Key Issues

Since that rainy morning in May, I have articulated my strategies to tackle housing and energy costs, alongside expanding workforce training opportunities. My vision recognizes that a four-year degree is not the sole route to success, and I aim to implement policies that reflect this understanding. Furthermore, I am determined to elevate Virginia’s public school system to the best in the nation.

In contrast, my opponent, Winsome Earle-Sears, the current lieutenant governor, has failed to present concrete plans for addressing these critical issues. Her lack of initiative to mitigate the high costs of living and to stimulate our economy is concerning.

The Economic Impact of Federal Policies

Virginians, including over 300,000 federal employees, are currently grappling with the implications of the prior administration’s policies and actions. The Trump administration’s job cuts due to government shutdowns and the unpredictability of tariffs have left many worried about their livelihoods. My opponent has trivialized these valid concerns, displaying a troubling disconnect from the struggles facing many residents in Virginia.

As I campaign for Virginia’s governorship, my commitment to safeguarding jobs and supporting a robust economy remains unwavering. I understand the challenges ahead and stand prepared to advocate for the residents of our commonwealth.

A Call to Action for Voters

If you are a registered voter in Virginia, my name will appear on your ballot this year. This election presents a crucial decision-making moment, and you may still be deliberating over whom to trust with your vote. You might think that because I am a Democrat, supporting me is out of the question, particularly if you identify as a Republican.

In 2018, I won my first campaign in a district that had not elected a Democrat in half a century. This victory stemmed from a diverse coalition of voters willing to look beyond party lines. They recognized the value of electing a leader committed to serving the people of Virginia over party loyalty.

My Commitment to Virginians

Since entering politics, my focus has consistently revolved around improving the lives of Virginians. I have tirelessly advocated for healthcare access, worked to lower the cost of living, and prioritized community safety. My priorities have not wavered, and I am ready to get to work from day one if elected as your governor.

I wholeheartedly believe in fostering inclusivity in my leadership approach. While I identify as a Democrat, I welcome support from any voter who shares my commitment to making Virginia a better place for all. It would be a privilege to earn your trust and obtain your vote in this critical election.
