CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A man charged with the fatal shooting of a father of three during a road rage incident in Lake Norman, North Carolina, is now seeking a modification of his bond. This information comes from recent court documents and local news reports.
Terrell Eugene Giddens, aged 75, faces serious allegations after the death of 40-year-old Jeffrey Michael Guida on October 12, 2024. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. while Guida was driving with his three young daughters aged 2, 11, and 13 in the back of a Jeep Wagoneer, as stated by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.
According to eyewitness reports, both men exited their vehicles during the confrontation. Allegedly, Giddens shot Guida, firing multiple rounds into the victim’s vehicle where the children were present. Fortunately, none of the girls sustained injuries during this harrowing event.
Following the shooting, Giddens reportedly returned home, disposed of his clothing in a trash bag, and changed into a different outfit. He then took his kayak to the Lake Norman shoreline, paddling to the 17B marker to discard the trash bag along with the rifle believed to be used in the shooting, as detailed in the Charlotte Observer.
Giddens’ attorney, Robert Campbell, is advocating for a bond reduction, asserting that Giddens is presumed innocent and has strong community ties. The motion for bond modification was filed in Catawba County, highlighting that Giddens lived less than half a mile from the scene of the incident.
Before his retirement after 36 years at General Motors, Giddens served in active duty as a tank commander in Vietnam and Germany, enlisting in the Army in 1969 and receiving an honorable discharge in 1971.
Meanwhile, Guida’s family is actively mobilizing support from the community to prevent Giddens’ release on bond. Karen Guida, Jeff’s wife, expressed her outrage in a recent post on the family’s GoFundMe page titled ‘Support Karen and Daughters After Tragedy.’ She passionately called for unity in the face of this tragic loss.
She articulated, ‘The man who murdered Jeff while my children watched and then turned the AR-15 on them is AGAIN asking for bond and to be released.’ This plea underscores the family’s desire for justice and accountability.
Jeff Guida hailed from Lewiston, Maine, and his family described him as a devoted husband and a loving father. His obituary paints a portrait of a man who relished spending time with his children, enjoying activities such as hiking, cooking, motorcycling, traveling, weightlifting, and gaming.
In the wake of this tragedy, the family is left grappling with profound loss. Karen Guida, in her emotional appeals, has emphasized the gravity of the situation, noting that Giddens’ confession and the presence of multiple witnesses lend credence to the claims against him.
Giddens faces charges that include first-degree murder and three counts of attempted murder. Currently, he remains in custody without bond, pending further legal proceedings. Fox News Digital has reached out to Campbell for additional comments regarding the case.
This tragic incident not only highlights the dangers of road rage but also raises important questions about justice and community support in the face of such violence. As the legal process unfolds, the family of Jeffrey Guida continues to seek justice while the community rallies around them, demonstrating the power of solidarity in times of sorrow.
