Addressing Women’s Health: Key Issues Ignored by the Medical Community

Addressing Women’s Health: Key Issues Ignored by the Medical Community

As the health of Americans gains renewed attention through the Make America Healthy Again initiative, experts assert that women’s health must take center stage. Dr. Austin Lake, a functional medicine provider based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, emphasizes that many women’s health issues remain overlooked.

Dr. Lake specializes in treating women experiencing hormonal imbalances, autoimmune disorders, and chronic illnesses. In a recent interview, he shared his observations from working with numerous women who are frustrated by chronic health problems and the worries expressed by mothers and grandmothers regarding their children’s health.

“With the rise of Make America Healthy Again, the need for a movement focusing on health awareness is critical,” Dr. Lake explained. He pointed to substantial evidence indicating that many Americans, particularly women, are grappling with significant health challenges.

Chronic Health Issues Faced by Women

One major concern raised by Dr. Lake is the exposure to glyphosate, a herbicide frequently applied to crops. He warns that glyphosate can impede the body’s capacity to combat cancer. “Not only does glyphosate strip essential minerals and nutrients from our food, but it also eliminates vital healing components that help prevent cancer formation,” he highlighted.

Dr. Lake noted that many chemotherapy drugs used to manage cancer effectively are found in food supplies, but their efficacy is neutralized by glyphosate’s presence. He advocates for local farmers to adopt safer methods for crop protection to benefit consumers.

Fluoride’s Impact on Women’s Health

Another concern involves fluoride levels in United States water sources, which Dr. Lake argues may disproportionately affect women’s health. Ongoing debates about fluoride’s advantages and disadvantages have gained traction, as recent studies suggest that fluoride consumption can lower IQ in children and harm thyroid function, a critical issue for women.

“Fluoride reduces iodine absorption in the body, leading to increased thyroid problems. This situation is particularly alarming, given that thyroid medication is among the most commonly prescribed drugs to women, yet it often fails to address the underlying issue,” he noted.

Dr. Lake pointed out that the confluence of fluoride exposure, nutrient deficiencies, poor air quality, and high stress levels fosters a significant health crisis. He predicts that without decisive action, infertility rates among American women could rise.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports a historic decline in America’s birth rate, dropping 3% since 2022, raising further concerns about women’s reproductive health.

PMS and Related Symptoms

Dr. Lake also emphasizes the normalization of severe symptoms of premenstrual syndrome, or PMS, which many women dismiss as typical. “We’ve accepted debilitating menstrual cramps and energy depletion as common, but these are not normal experiences,” he stressed.

“Many women suffer from symptoms that have been attributed to PMS without addressing their root causes,” he added. Identifying and tackling lifestyle factors that affect women’s health is essential for reversing this trend.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Lifestyle Factors

Increasing numbers of American women are being diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, or PCOS, which presents various challenges, such as irregular periods and weight management issues. Dr. Lake noted that insulin resistance—an inability to regulate energy—often contributes to this condition.

Johns Hopkins Medicine links PCOS to chronic inflammation, which exacerbates insulin resistance. Factors such as dietary choices, environmental stressors, and inadequate sleep can lead to increased oxidative stress and inflammation. “Women face the same external challenges as men, but their unique hormonal and physiological characteristics heighten their vulnerability,” he stressed.

Call for Healthier Food Options

In Dr. Lake’s view, improving nutritional standards in schools and healthcare facilities is vital. He encourages decision-makers to prioritize serving healthier meals rather than opting for the cheapest options.

“Investing in nutritious food is essential for our community’s well-being. Unfortunately, many have been misled into believing that diet plays a minimal role in health, often attributing persistent health issues to genetic factors,” he asserted.

A collective awareness about the health consequences of dietary choices can lead to significant positive changes. Dr. Lake emphasized that individuals must recognize their capacity for self-healing.

Empowerment Through Knowledge

“Feeling hopeless diminishes the motivation to make meaningful changes. It is crucial for individuals to understand that they possess the ability to improve their health,
