From a brisk stroll across the tiny nation of Tuvalu in under a minute to an unforgettable night on the Great Wall of China, their journey is a testament to the wonders of global exploration.
The Criders initiated their grand adventure by exploring all 50 states in the U.S. Before welcoming their first child this June, the couple capped off their travels with a relaxing trip to the Bahamas.
Reflecting on their journey, Hudson revealed, “When we started traveling, we never planned to visit every country. We just wanted to see more of the world and experience different cultures.”
Heartfelt Encounters Around the Globe
In an insightful interview with Fox News Digital, the couple recounted numerous memorable experiences. One profound aspect of their travels was the overwhelming kindness they encountered from people worldwide.
“Despite the cultural differences, a smile goes beyond any language barrier,” Hudson shared. “In almost every country, people went out of their way to welcome us or lend a hand.”
Emily emphasized that they have countless heartwarming stories about the strangers who became friends over their journey. “It has reshaped our hearts and the kind of people we aspire to be, influenced by how warmly people treated us,” she expressed. “That unexpected kindness has become a central theme in what we wish to share.”
Discovering Hidden Gems
Among less frequented destinations, the couple found Uzbekistan surprisingly delightful in terms of its rich culture, delicious food, and welcoming people, all while being budget-friendly.
“Before we even crossed the border — we relied on public transport and shared vans — someone invited us to their home. This hospitality was evident throughout our travels,” Hudson noted. “Uzbekistan is a historical significant location along the Silk Road, featuring beautiful cities like Samarkand, adorned with stunning blue mosques and famous for its delectable cuisine.”
Emily mentioned her admiration for Namibia’s breathtaking landscapes. “Namibia is incredibly underrated. It boasts amazing safaris alongside stunning sand dunes that stretch as far as the eye can see, and it’s quite accessible for travelers,” she stated.
Thailand and Patagonia Stand Out
Thailand, where the Criders spent seven months exploring, emerged as a favorite among their travel destinations.
Emily highlighted its affordability, scenic beauty, vibrant culture, delectable food, and the friendships they forged during their stay. Meanwhile, Hudson praised Patagonia in Argentina for its stunning vistas, perfect for photography enthusiasts.
“The region has mesmerizing glaciers and mountains alongside picturesque plains and beaches,” he said.
The Maldives also captured their hearts as one of the most serene destinations, recognized for its pristine beaches.
The Universal Language of Food
Food served as a universal connector throughout the couple’s travels. They often found local individuals eager to share meals with them, frequently at no cost.
Emily expressed her love for the Swiss culinary experience, particularly due to the fondue. A Swiss family welcomed the Criders into their home and treated them to raclette, a traditional dish of melted cheese accompanied by various sides. “They insisted on sharing their culture with us, and I still cherish that meal,” she recounted.
Hudson praised Vietnamese and Thai cuisines, asserting it is challenging to find anything less than delightful in those countries. However, Emily faced culinary challenges as well, describing a harrowing bout of food poisoning in Pakistan after accepting an invitation to a festive meal.
“When traveling, one must navigate various cuisines. Sometimes, it leads to unexpected outcomes,” Hudson acknowledged.
Emily recalled the touching experience of being included in a local celebration, revealing, “Complete strangers invited us to partake in their biggest holiday. It was profoundly special to witness their kindness and recognize our shared humanity, despite cultural differences.”
Wild Encounters and Adventures
The couple relished numerous safaris and wildlife encounters, designating Kenya as the premier destination for wildlife enthusiasts. Emily vividly described witnessing the Great Migration along the border of Kenya and Tanzania, saying, “It felt like a movie unfolding before our eyes.”
While some countries presented easy access, others posed unique challenges. The Criders described navigating public transportation in West Africa, often resembling a crowded station wagon crammed with people — and sometimes even goats.
Unique Experiences and Adventures
Emily excitedly recalled swimming with humpback whales in Tonga, feeling diminutive in their presence. Hudson remarked, “French Polynesia is one of the most accessible locations for swimming with these majestic beings.” Being in such proximity to these colossal creatures imparted a surreal experience.

For fellow travel enthusiasts, the Criders share valuable advice: Begin with modest expectations. Hudson suggested, “When venturing to an off-the-beaten-path destination, embrace the fact that it will be an experience rather than just a trip.”
“Adjusting your expectations ensures you’ll always return with a rewarding experience — whether the times were good or challenging, it all becomes a valuable story,” he added.
