Canadian driver Amber Balcaen was not competing in the Daytona 500 this year, yet she undeniably felt the electrifying presence of former President Donald Trump at the event. The atmosphere at Daytona International Speedway was charged, and Balcaen described the experience as awe-inspiring.
Balcaen, 32, conveyed her excitement during a recent interview on OutKick’s show, OutKick The Morning with Charly Arnolt. She expressed how Trump’s appearance sent chills down her spine. She remarked, “I’m Canadian, but I’ve never experienced anything like that. You could feel the energy, and even still talking about it gives me chills. It was really neat.”
Balcaen had competed the day before in the ACRA Menards Series, which was won by Gus Dean. Consequently, she was unable to hear Trump speak over the radio. However, she imagined the reactions of drivers who felt the magnitude of the moment.
Trump’s presence heightened the atmosphere at an event already renowned as the Great American Race. Balcaen emphasized that the Daytona 500 is comparable to NASCAR’s Super Bowl and that having the President of the United States in attendance infused the event with even more energy. She stated, “The energy is already absolutely electric on that day at Daytona. But to have the President there, it just added another level.”
This year marked a historic moment for Trump as he became the first sitting president to attend the Daytona 500 twice. His arrival at the racetrack earlier this month was met with enthusiasm from fans and participants alike. Balcaen’s perspective on the level of excitement was echoed by other drivers, emphasizing the significance of having a political figure of such importance present at the race.
After engaging with various drivers on the pit lane, Trump took a pace lap in the presidential limousine, known as
