Andrew Cuomo Shares His Vision for New York City as Mayoral Candidate

Andrew Cuomo Shares His Vision for New York City as Mayoral Candidate

Throughout my adult life, I have dedicated myself to the fight for New York. Together, we have navigated periods of triumph and tragedy, from the AIDS crisis to 9/11, from Hurricane Sandy to the challenges posed by COVID-19. I possess an understanding of this city and its people that runs deep. The New York we cherish—the city characterized by safety, opportunity, and promise—is at a critical crossroads.

As early voting commences, I am proud to declare my candidacy for mayor of this incredible city. I urge you to join me in ensuring we maintain its greatness.

Acknowledging Past Mistakes

Let’s be honest: my journey hasn’t been without its flaws. I have made mistakes and faced my share of criticisms. However, over the decades, my record highlights a commitment to results—real progress for real people. I have collaborated across party lines, reduced taxes for working families, and maintained a strict fiscal framework, demonstrating that both fiscal responsibility and progressive ideals can coexist.

A Track Record of Accomplishments

I have accomplished what others deemed impossible: building the new LaGuardia Airport, completing the Kosciuszko Bridge, advancing the Second Avenue Subway, and establishing Moynihan Train Hall. Moreover, I spearheaded efforts to bring Amazon jobs to New York, only to see them hindered by political theatrics. In times of crisis, I responded with steadiness and science, rather than buzzwords.

This is the kind of leadership New York needs once more.

Election Dynamics: Common Sense versus Chaos

This election transcends traditional political lines. It is about common sense versus chaos, competence versus ideology. The question at stake is whether we will restore a functional city or yield it to extremism and decline.

A Threat to New York’s Future

My opponent, Zohran Mamdani, personifies a dangerous shift in politics. His stance misinterprets protest as progress and views theatrics as leadership. His vision lacks a coherent plan for New York’s future—it poses an existential threat to it. Mamdani has advocated defunding the police, decriminalizing prostitution, and closing Rikers Island without a viable plan for the individuals it houses. He frames capitalism as the enemy and disparages the institutions essential for maintaining safety and order in our city.

What History Teaches Us

History provides lessons on the consequences of fantasy-driven leadership. Under former Mayor Bill de Blasio, New York transitioned from a globally envied city to one grappling with crime, homelessness, and systemic dysfunction. Mamdani’s policies would amplify these issues—more reckless, more radical, and increasingly detached from the realities faced by working New Yorkers.

At just 34 years old, Mamdani has never managed a budget, run a business, overseen any workforce, or held a traditional job. His proposals resemble slogans popularized during college protests. Should we allow him to take charge of City Hall, the consequences for New Yorkers in terms of safety, employment, and community character will be severe.

A Coalition for Change

In contrast, my campaign is grounded in a coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and independents who share a foundational belief: New York can thrive once more. Together, we can make it the safest, fairest, and most affordable major city in America.

Broadened Security and Community Trust

I am committed to hiring 5,000 additional NYPD officers to restore our police force to full capacity. We must reinstate precision policing and rebuild community trust. Furthermore, we will expand job and mentorship programs for youth, aiming to guide them towards bright futures beyond street corners. We will take a tough stance on illegal firearms and repeat violent offenders, fostering a safe environment for all New Yorkers—Black, brown, White, immigrant, and native-born.

Aiming for Educational Equity

I will double the number of specialized high schools and expand Gifted and Talented programs. We will ensure that excellence is not confined by ZIP codes and support charter schools that demonstrate proven success for vulnerable students. Our focus will be to empower parents, incentivize outstanding teachers, and guarantee that every child—whether in public, charter, or parochial institutions—has the opportunity for growth and accountably.

Removing Barriers for Business Growth

My plan includes cutting the bureaucratic red tape that drives businesses and families out of New York City. We will expedite the construction of affordable housing by addressing the backlog in the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and increasing the city’s capital subsidy pool, allowing working families to afford to live here. Additionally, we will eliminate taxes on tips and overtime and place caps on property taxes for homeowners, making New York more competitive for various employers.

A Direct Appeal to Voters

Curtis Sliwa is a determined candidate, and I respect his tenacity. However, this election boils down to a two-person race. Supporting Sliwa effectively aids Mamdani in his campaign. A vote for Mamdani equates to backing policies that could dismantle the progress we have achieved and jeopardize this city’s future.

Emphasizing Commitment

You might not align with me on every issue, but you can trust that my commitment to New York is unwavering. I don’t merely talk about delivering results—I take decisive action to make them happen.

The choice this Tuesday, November 4, is evident: a city that works for everyone or one that fails to meet its obligations.

I am Andrew Cuomo, and I am reaching out for your vote. Together, we can fight for and deliver a brighter future for New York once again.
