Andrew Giuliani has been appointed as the executive director of the White House task force for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The announcement came from President Donald Trump on Tuesday, coinciding with the task force’s first official meeting.
Trump shared the news via a post on TruthSocial, signaling the importance of this initiative, which includes key members of his cabinet and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
In his post, Trump expressed pride in naming Andrew Giuliani to such a pivotal role, stating, “I am proud to announce the appointment of Andrew Giuliani as the Executive Director of the President’s Task Force on the 2026 FIFA World Cup.” This task force’s primary mission is to oversee preparations for the tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
Andrew Giuliani previously held the position of Special Assistant to the President and was Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison during Trump’s first term. His contributions were significant, particularly in establishing systems that facilitated the return of athletes to the United States during the 2020 pandemic reopening.
In March, Trump signed an executive order that officially established the task force dedicated to the FIFA tournament. Trump will chair the task force, with Vice President JD Vance serving as vice chair. Andrew Giuliani’s responsibilities will include managing daily operations, ensuring that everything runs smoothly in the lead-up to the World Cup.
After the meeting, Trump spoke highly of both Andrew Giuliani and his father, Rudy Giuliani, referring to Rudy as the “greatest” mayor in New York’s history. Trump stated, “He’s going to be great. I’ve known him for a long time. He’s a highly competitive golfer, really good. He’s also a highly competitive person, and he loves what we’re doing. I want to congratulate you and your family and your father, your great father who is the greatest mayor in the history of New York,” humorously noting the pressure of the role by saying, “It’s a big post. You better do well, Andrew.”
In addition to Andrew Giuliani’s appointment, Trump announced that Carlos Cordeiro, a senior FIFA advisor, would also join the task force as a senior advisor. This reflects a strategy to leverage expertise in ensuring the tournament’s success.
Trump emphasized the importance of the task force, stating, “I know Andrew and Carlos will work tirelessly to make the 2026 FIFA World Cup an unprecedented success.” The event is scheduled to be one of the largest international sporting spectacles in recent history.
According to forecasts, the World Cup is expected to attract nearly half a million visitors, with a potential economic impact of up to $480 million for the tourism, hospitality, and retail sectors. The North American tournament, which kicks off in June 2026, will be notable for being the first World Cup in over two decades held across multiple countries.
The majority of matches will take place in the United States, with host cities including Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Kansas City, Atlanta, Miami, Boston, Philadelphia, and East Rutherford, New Jersey. Each city prepares for both the excitement and the significant influx of visitors.
With Andrew Giuliani at the helm, the task force aims for not only operational excellence but also for fostering a legacy that enhances the profile of soccer within the U.S. and the broader region.
As preparations progress, the spotlight will remain on how the combined efforts of the task force can positively impact the local and national economy through various initiatives linked to the World Cup. The excitement surrounding this monumental event is palpable, setting high expectations for success.
