EXCLUSIVE: Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders of Arkansas has publicly endorsed Karrin Taylor Robson for the Republican primary in the Arizona gubernatorial race set for 2026.
Robson aims to challenge current Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs in a contest predicted to be one of the most competitive in the nation.
In a statement to a prominent news outlet, Sanders expressed her support, stating, “I am proud to join President Trump in endorsing Karrin Taylor Robson for Governor. Karrin represents the conservative outsider and business leader Arizona requires. I know she will work alongside the Trump Administration to secure our borders, foster a robust economy, and reject the Woke Agenda. I urge everyone to support Karrin today!”
Sarah Huckabee Sanders previously served as press secretary for President Donald Trump during his initial term. Following in her father Mike Huckabee’s footsteps, she became the governor of Arkansas in 2023, succeeding former Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson.
After receiving the endorsement, Robson remarked, “I am deeply honored to have Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ support. Her leadership in Arkansas and commitment to President Trump’s America First agenda serves as a model for governors across the country. I’m excited that she is aligning with President Trump to support my campaign geared towards delivering impactful results for Arizona by defeating radical Katie Hobbs, securing our borders, and strengthening our state.”
At the December AmericaFest organized by Turning Point USA, Trump indicated his intention to support Robson if she decided to enter the gubernatorial race. He stated, “Are you running for governor? I believe you should, Karrin, because if you do, you’re going to have my support, OK?”
In the 2022 primaries, Robson made a bid for the governor’s office but narrowly lost to Republican Kari Lake. Lake currently serves as a senior advisor to the U.S. Agency for Global Media. The bitter primary fought in 2022 saw Robson ultimately extending her endorsements to both Trump and Lake, who are now competing for the 2024 general election.
As Robson moves forward with her campaign, she faces significant competition. Representative Andy Biggs, who aligns with Trump, has entered the race and has garnered support from other Republican representatives, including Eli Crane, Paul Gosar from Arizona, and Lauren Boebert from Colorado. Analysts predict that Biggs might connect more effectively with the Republican base, leading to speculation about his potential to outperform Robson.
With the primary election scheduled for August 4, 2026, there remains a considerable amount of time before candidates finalize their positions. The outcome of this competitive race remains uncertain, with the Cook Political Report designating the general election as a toss-up. Other statewide offices will also be contested in what is considered a battleground state, one that Trump won in the previous election.
As the Arizona gubernatorial race heats up, all eyes will be on the developments in candidate endorsements and shifting political alliances.
