Surveillance footage from a salon in Arkansas recently revealed the dramatic arrest of Andrew James McGann, who is implicated in a double homicide at Devil’s Den State Park. This video, which was obtained by Fox News, shows the 28-year-old McGann in Lupita’s Beauty Salon & Barber Shop, wearing a light blue polo shirt and khaki pants.
As McGann sat mid-haircut, officers from the Arkansas State Police entered the salon and swiftly handcuffed him, removing the haircut cape as patrons and employees watched in stunned silence.
Law enforcement officials arrested McGann at precisely 4:57 p.m. on Wednesday, charging him with two counts of capital murder linked to the tragic deaths of Clinton David Brink, aged 43, and Cristen Amanda Brink, aged 41. Their bodies were discovered on a hiking trail at Devil’s Den.
Remarkably, the couple’s daughters, aged 7 and 9, were not harmed during the incident and are currently under the care of family members, according to authorities.
During a news conference on Thursday, Arkansas State Police Director Col. Mike Hagar divulged that both Clinton and Cristen Brink died from stab wounds, with a knife confirmed as the weapon used in the attack. Hagar assured the public that there are no indications that the daughters were specifically targeted in this violent crime.
“It appears to be a completely random event,” Hagar stated. “We have no reason to believe there was any known association between our suspect and our victims.”
Furthermore, Hagar indicated that McGann suffered injuries during the assault, and the blood found at the crime scene ultimately led authorities to identify him as the suspect. Investigators revealed that McGann confessed to the murders, with DNA evidence corroborating his involvement.
“Although everyone is innocent until proven guilty, we confirmed this morning that the suspect’s DNA is a positive match to the DNA recovered at the crime scene,” Hagar stated. “During an interview with investigators, the suspect admitted to committing the murders. We also executed a search warrant at his residence and recovered items consistent with the crime.”
Authorities have disclosed that McGann possesses no known adult criminal history. There are no prior charges or convictions associated with his name. Until May, he worked as a teacher in a small Oklahoma school district before resigning to pursue employment in another state.
According to statements from Sand Springs Public Schools, McGann successfully passed all background checks. However, McGann had not yet commenced his new position with Springdale Public Schools in Arkansas, confirmed by district superintendent Jared Cleveland. Cleveland emphasized that McGann had no direct contact with students or their families prior to the incident.
Cleveland expressed heartfelt condolences to the Brink family, highlighting the emotional impact on their children. “Our entire team extends our deepest condolences to the Brink family,” he stated. “Their children are especially in our thoughts and prayers.”
Evidence has emerged that raises concerns about McGann’s conduct prior to the tragic events. The mother of a former student reported that she filed a complaint in 2023 after her son witnessed McGann behaving inappropriately toward younger female students.
As a result, parents received a letter from the school district that McGann was placed on administrative leave while investigations into complaints of poor classroom management and lack of professional judgment were conducted. Although investigators did not find substantiated evidence of inappropriate behavior toward students, they did conclude that McGann’s management skills and judgment fell short of the district’s expectations. Shortly after this finding, McGann resigned.
The Brink family, who had relocated from South Dakota to Arkansas, visited Devil’s Den State Park on Saturday, July 26, for an excursion with their two daughters. The peaceful outing turned into a horrific event.
Sunday afternoon, around 2:40 p.m., Arkansas State Police discovered Cristen and Clinton’s bodies along a remote hiking trail. Authorities confirmed that while the young girls remained physically unharmed, they were understandably traumatized by the incident.
According to reports, investigators believe that Clinton Brink was the first victim. Cristen Brink subsequently led their daughters to safety but returned in an attempt to help her husband, leading to her fatal attack.
“We believe that the mother took them to safety and then returned to help her husband,” stated Hagar. The causes of death for both Clinton and Cristen Brink are still being determined.
Major Stacey Rhodes confirmed that McGann admitted to the double murders during interrogations. “He made statements indicating that he had committed these heinous acts,” Rhodes remarked on Thursday. “We then executed search warrants at both his residence and his vehicle.”
As the investigation continues, authorities have received over 500 tips. They assert that McGann acted alone and are not seeking any additional suspects at this time.
Devil’s Den State Park, located approximately 140 miles northwest of Little Rock, encompasses 2,500 acres, featuring vast hiking trails and striking rock formations. The park is a popular destination for both locals and visitors, providing an escape into nature.
The tragic incident involving the Brink family serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictability of violent crime, and communities are left grappling with the implications of such a senseless act.
