Attorney General Pam Bondi Seeks to Reverse Biden’s Death Row Commutations, Claims Undermining of Justice

Attorney General Pam Bondi Takes Action Against Biden’s Commutations

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has initiated a campaign to reverse the recent commutations granted to death row inmates by former President Joe Biden. In a decisive move, Bondi is directing state authorities to pursue the death penalty for these convicted murderers.

Allegations Against Former President Biden

Bondi, who was confirmed in her position on Wednesday, voiced her concerns regarding the commutations in a letter to employees of the Department of Justice (DOJ). She accused Biden of “undermin[ing] our justice system and subvert[ing] the rule of law” through these actions.

In her letter, Bondi expressed that these commutations have deprived the victims’ families of the justice they were promised and fought hard to achieve through the DOJ. She stated, “The Department of Justice is directed to immediately commence the following actions to achieve justice for the victims’ families of the 37 commuted murderers.”

Building Trust with Victims’ Families

To address the impact of these commutations, Bondi emphasized the importance of providing a platform for victims’ families to voice their experiences. She described this as an “important step” towards fostering trust and ensuring accountability within the justice system.

Plans for Legal Action

Bondi plans to instruct U.S. attorney’s offices to seek death sentences for the commuted inmates under state law, rather than federal law. This course of action will be pursued after consultation with the victims’ families and other relevant stakeholders, and only where such actions are legally permissible.

In her directive, she noted, “The Capital Case Section shall assist the United States Attorney’s Offices in implementing this directive.” These steps reflect her commitment to justice and the rights of victims.

Ensuring Safe Confinement

Additionally, Bondi has directed the Federal Bureau of Prisons to maintain conditions of confinement for the 37 commuted inmates that align with the security risks they pose. This also includes considering their past criminal behaviors and histories.

Biden’s Decisive Moves in December

In a significant decision made late last year, Biden reclassified the sentences of 37 inmates on federal death row, changing them to life without the possibility of parole. At the time, the administration stated that this move was aimed at preventing the incoming Trump administration from carrying out execution sentences that would not align with current policies.

The White House remarked, “The President’s criminal justice record has transformed individual lives and positively impacted communities, especially historically marginalized communities.” They also pledged to continue reviewing additional pardons and commutations in the future.

Remaining Death Row Inmates

Following these changes, three mass murderers remain on federal death row: Dylann Roof, the Charleston church shooter; Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, responsible for the Boston Marathon bombing; and Robert Bowers, the gunman involved in the 2018 Pittsburgh Tree of Life Synagogue shooting.

Bondi’s Commitment to Justice

Bondi, a former prosecutor and the Florida state attorney general, aims to eradicate political influence from the DOJ. She has reiterated her commitment by stating, “America will have one tier of justice for all.” This statement underscores her focus on restoring fairness within the federal justice system.

Fox News Digital reached out to the DOJ for comments regarding this unfolding situation. As developments continue, the legal and political ramifications of Bondi’s actions remain to be seen.
