For the third consecutive January, a daily Bible reading podcast has made its way into the Apple Podcasts Top 10. Tara-Leigh Cobble, the host of this popular show, believes that this trend reveals an increasing desire among listeners to reconnect with their faith.
“We’re witnessing a significant number of individuals returning to their spiritual roots,” Cobble explained to Fox News Digital. She noted that many who have stepped away from their faith or have questioned their beliefs are now drawn back to the teachings they once embraced.
Launched in 2019, “The Bible Recap” aims to provide an engaging summary of the entire Bible in just about 10 minutes each day. Initially conceived with the modest goal of reaching 300 listeners, the show has blossomed into a global phenomenon, accumulating over 500 million downloads. Recently, it soared to the top five of Apple Podcasts across all categories during the first week of January.
The podcast’s remarkable success mirrors a broader resurgence of interest in spirituality within the United States. Numerous faith leaders have reported a notable increase in church attendance since late last year, while Bible sales are soaring in both the U.S. and the U.K. Reports indicate that American Bible sales experienced a substantial 36% increase last September.
Cobble expressed excitement about the show’s sustained impact, proclaiming that it indicates a collective hunger for God’s word and a desire for spiritual growth. She views this as a sign that many are seeking deeper connections with scripture.
Despite the usual decline in daily downloads after the New Year, Cobble remains optimistic. She believes that many listeners prefer to engage with the material at their own pace rather than adhere to a rigid schedule.
“Just because some individuals are not downloading episodes daily does not indicate they have abandoned their Bible reading habits,” she clarified. “People often miss a day here and there, but that does not prevent them from continuing with the plan on their timeframe.”
She added, “For some, it might take two years to complete the plan, and that is perfectly acceptable. Each download symbolizes an individual engaging with scripture, making every single download meaningful to us!”
Cobble generously shared strategies for listeners seeking to solidify their Bible-reading practice. One effective method she promotes is habit stacking, which involves integrating the day’s reading into one’s daily routine.
“Personally, I enjoy listening to the day’s reading on the audio Bible application while preparing my morning coffee,” she explained. “Afterward, I dedicate time to sit down with the scripture. This allows it to become part of my daily routine.”
She also suggests partnering with a friend to enhance accountability and foster shared learning experiences. “Not only does this create a sense of accountability, but it also introduces a new dimension of joy and discovery,” she shared.
Above all, Cobble emphasizes that the ultimate aim is not to achieve perfection in understanding each passage, but rather to nurture a deeper relationship with God. She offers this important advice: “Every day spent in God’s word puts you right on track. Do not allow perfectionism to stifle your enthusiasm for reading. It is not about doing everything flawlessly. Focus instead on discovering God’s character in the scriptures. Each day acts as a treasure hunt, and God has promised that if you seek Him earnestly, you will find Him! So keep digging!”
Cobble’s ministry continues to evolve, recently launching a new initiative dubbed “The Bible Recap Kids.” Hosted by “Miss Emily,” this podcast debuted in January at No. 1 on Apple Podcasts in the Kids & Family category. It targets young audiences aged 3 to 12, aiming to create opportunities for families to listen and learn together.
The show employs age-appropriate language to explain challenging passages, allowing parents and caregivers to address more complex discussions when appropriate.
Looking ahead towards 2026, Cobble expresses her desire for the podcast to facilitate reconnection for those who have drifted from their faith while deepening their understanding of scripture.
“Ultimately, our goal is to assist people in reading, understanding, and cherishing the Bible as well as the God who inspired it!” she said.
