Former Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning embarked on his first full-time starting season in late August following two years as a backup to Quinn Ewers. Despite eager anticipation, Manning faced a tough start, culminating in a season-opening loss against Ohio State where he accumulated only 170 passing yards.
After the disappointing opener, Texas rebounded impressively, securing three consecutive victories. Yet, a humbling defeat against Florida in Week 6 prompted renewed scrutiny over Manning’s ability to perform at the collegiate level and live up to his high school reputation.
Bijan Robinson, a former Texas running back who has made a name for himself with the Atlanta Falcons, shared his thoughts on Manning’s rocky start to the 2025 season. During a recent interview on The Rich Eisen Show, Robinson urged the young quarterback to maintain consistency and rely on his support network.
“I would say just continue to stay consistent,” Robinson advised. He emphasized the importance of ignoring outside distractions, particularly from the media, which can either guide a player or create unnecessary pressure. Robinson reassured Manning that he has a strong support system within the Texas program.
“Stay consistent as much as possible. Don’t listen to the media, ’cause the media can steer you in the right direction or tarnish you for your career. For him, always know that everybody has his back in that building. Coach Steve Sarkisian seems to have his back; everybody around him has his back,” Robinson added.
One of Manning’s standout performances came during Texas’ emphatic 55-0 victory over Sam Houston State in Week 4. In that game, Manning showcased his potential with 309 passing yards and three touchdown passes in addition to scoring two rushing touchdowns, marking a pivotal moment in his season.
However, the game against Florida proved to be another hurdle. The Gators’ defense proved to be a formidable challenge, limiting Manning’s effectiveness. He concluded that match with two touchdowns but also threw two interceptions, contributing to the 29-21 loss for the Longhorns. This performance has heightened discussions surrounding Manning’s development and future prospects.
After five starts this season, Manning’s statistics reflect a grappling with consistency as he has amassed 1,151 passing yards, along with 11 touchdowns compared to five interceptions. Despite these struggles, Manning’s athleticism has shined through; his mobility has resulted in 160 rushing yards and five touchdowns, showcasing his ability to contribute in multiple ways.
As the season progresses, Manning’s growth as a quarterback continues to be a focal point for analysts and fans alike. The pressure on him to perform remains substantial, particularly given his breakout high school career. Support from former players like Robinson adds a layer of encouragement during these formative years.
Looking ahead, the Texas coaching staff remains optimistic about Manning’s potential. Coach Steve Sarkisian has publicly expressed confidence in Manning, emphasizing the importance of experience in developing a successful quarterback. Challenges are an inherent part of the journey, particularly for young athletes adjusting to the demands of college football.
With each game, Manning continues to refine his skills and adapt to the rigors of being a starting quarterback in a prominent program. The coming weeks will be critical as he aims to build on previous performances, particularly after receiving encouragement from both coaches and former teammates.
The fanbase at Texas remains steadfast in its support for Manning. The Longhorns community is not only cheering for his on-field successes but also rallying around him as he navigates the pressure of expectations. Fans understand that development takes time and often includes setbacks, urging patience as Manning grows into the role of a starter.
The camaraderie within the team, fueled by the assurance from players like Robinson, sets a positive environment. This atmosphere can significantly influence Manning’s trajectory, reinforcing the idea that the journey is just as important as the destination.
As the Longhorns prepare for upcoming clashes, all eyes will remain on Manning as he aims to solidify his place as a key player for the Texas program. With continuous backing and encouragement from his peers, there is optimism that he will overcome early-season challenges and evolve into a formidable leader on the field.
