Blake Lively has amended her complaint against Justin Baldoni, her co-star in the film “It Ends With Us”. This updated legal document, filed late Tuesday in a New York federal court, contains several new allegations concerning sexual harassment, retaliation, and emotional distress. The amended filing expands on Lively’s original claims with detailed accounts meant to illustrate her experiences and those of other women involved with the film.
In the extensive 141-page document, Lively asserts that at least two other actresses who worked on the film are prepared to share their own accounts of discomfort during their time on set. These women reportedly feel a sense of unease regarding how their experiences might be received publicly, creating a chilling effect on their willingness to come forward.
A statement from Lively’s attorneys, Esra Hudson and Mike Gottlieb, underscores the significance of the newly included evidence. They described it as vital corroboration for Lively’s assertions.
The attorneys stated, “This evidence includes previously undisclosed communications involving Ms. Lively, representatives of Sony, Wayfarer, and numerous other witnesses.” They highlighted that Lively’s amended complaint demonstrates she was not alone in voicing on-set misconduct allegations well before the film’s edits.
Additionally, the complaint introduces a claim of defamation. This allegation stems from repeated false statements made by the defendants regarding Lively.
Lively’s legal team believes that their forthcoming strategy will reveal shocking information about the retaliatory measures taken against her and other women. They promised to seek the dismissal of the lawsuits that they consider entirely baseless.
A spokesperson for Lively pointed out how the amended complaint captures the discomfort experienced by other actresses. Several of them confided in Lively about their reluctance to speak up due to fears regarding public backlash.
The revised filing contains specific allegations that Justin Baldoni and producer Jamey Heath created an uncomfortable atmosphere on set. According to the spokesperson, these expressions of discomfort reflect a broader culture of fear that has silenced many would-be accusers.
The complaint notes an interesting interaction in which a Sony representative allegedly addressed concerns with Baldoni. Baldoni purportedly reassured one complainant, promising to take measures to improve the situation, but he failed to fulfill these promises. Instead, he allegedly shifted focus to hiring a team for crisis management and legal support to aid in managing the public perception of the ongoing situation.
Lively’s complaint does not identify the other actresses involved, citing ongoing targeting and harassment directed at innocent individuals. According to her spokesperson, witnesses have faced threats that go beyond mere legal actions, including potential physical violence aimed at them and their families.
This pervasive environment of fear arises from a persistent digital campaign designed to manipulate public sentiment against Lively and other victims. The spokesperson emphasized that the behavior exhibited by the defendants seems to prioritize protecting Wayfarer’s corporate image over the well-being of individuals involved.
According to the amended complaint, the internal investigation by Wayfarer Studios into the allegations has been deemed wholly inadequate. Lively’s team criticized the company’s investigation as a mere formality, noting it failed to truly address the serious allegations raised by multiple women.
The spokesperson remarked, “What they have put together is a farce, not an investigation.” They contended that Wayfarer’s management had instead focused on constructing a plan to discredit and retaliate against those who brought forth accusations.
While representatives for Baldoni did not respond to requests for comment, his legal counsel appeared on a television interview discussing the ongoing situation. They acknowledged the existence of alleged complaints against Baldoni from additional women within the cast, which have surfaced on social media platforms.
As the legal battles continue, tensions remain high. Baldoni previously initiated a $400 million lawsuit against Lively and her husband, Ryan Reynolds, alleging civil extortion and defamation following Lively’s original claims.
In a recent public appearance, Lively and Reynolds attended “Saturday Night Live”‘s 50th anniversary show, where Reynolds seemingly referenced the unfolding legal turmoil in a light-hearted manner. This drew criticism from Baldoni’s attorney, who called into question the appropriateness of joking about such serious allegations.
The court will soon address various aspects of the legal proceedings. Meanwhile, Lively and her legal team continue to prepare for a combative discovery phase, one that they believe will uncover deep-seated issues within the working environment of the film.
The implications of these legal developments extend far beyond the parties directly involved, raising crucial questions about workplace conduct, accountability, and the treatment of harassment claims in the entertainment industry.
