As Democratic leaders in Massachusetts ramp up their opposition to federal intervention aimed at reducing crime, a whistleblower connected to a migrant shelter is warning of a sharp increase in criminal activity throughout the state, particularly in Boston.
Jon Fetherston, a former operator of a state-funded migrant shelter in Marlborough, Massachusetts, has previously exposed severe issues including rampant crime and sexual abuse within the shelter system. Fetherston claims that since Democratic Governor Maura Healey halted the shelter operations, the region has seen a troubling rise in incidents such as domestic violence, sex trafficking, shoplifting, and car accidents.
Fetherston provided a stark assessment of the situation, explaining, “The Healey hotels were notorious for facilitating sex trafficking and incidents of domestic violence. Sadly, we have documented several cases of rape occurring there. Now, the issues are spreading to every city and town in Massachusetts.”
This alarming news emerges as Healey publicly denounces the Trump administration’s federal crackdown on crime in Washington, D.C., labeling any intervention in Boston as mere showmanship. She criticized the former president’s actions, stating, “We don’t need or want his interference here.”
In contrast, Fetherston voiced strong concerns regarding Healey’s dismissal of the potential dangers. He stated, “How the governor can expect the public to believe that these incidents will not occur is incredibly naive and dangerous.”
He further articulated his frustration by saying, “Governor Healey wants you to believe that closing the hotels and placing people into communities will mean those serious instances will not resurface. This is clearly a misconception, especially given the surge in troubling reports from the previous year, which the state is still withholding for 2025.”
Referencing high-profile events such as the tragic auto accident in Florida caused by illegal immigrant Harjinder Singh, which resulted in three fatalities, Fetherston remarked, “We’ve witnessed the media spotlighting incidents involving unlicensed drivers. While I can’t confirm that aspect, I have certainly observed a significant rise in car accidents in our area.”
Fetherston remarked that Boston has been disproportionately affected, declaring, “Your own eyes will reveal the truth. Crime is on the rise in Boston. The situation has deteriorated considerably; once a respected city, Boston now grapples with rampant drug use and escalating crime rates.”
Boston’s Mayor Michelle Wu, a fellow Democrat, has staunchly rejected the Trump administration’s efforts to address the concerns surrounding illegal immigration and its impact on local crime. She reiterated, “In Boston, we adhere to local, state, and federal laws and will not compromise the integrity of our communities, which have rendered us one of the safest major cities in the country.”
Wu characterized Boston as a beautiful and diverse community, urging the administration to cease its attacks on cities to distract from its own shortcomings.
In light of the ongoing crime wave, Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons has pledged to increase federal enforcement in Boston. Fetherston expressed support for this heightened presence, arguing that Wu’s refusal to cooperate is unconscionable.
Fetherston stated, “It boggles my mind that any elected official would fail to prioritize public safety. This mindset is troubling. Mayor Wu insists Boston remains one of the safest cities, but the reality is plain for all to see—the city is in a significant decline.”
He continued, “When confronted with threats from the Trump administration or Homeland Security to take action in crime-ridden areas, anyone residing in those neighborhoods will recognize the need for such measures.”
Fetherston further explained, “Business owners and local law enforcement hope for constructive discussions about crime solutions, and many support the president’s initiatives. Although some dissenters may dislike the optics, it’s crucial to understand that intervention doesn’t mean a militarized presence; it’s about support and service, much like what local authorities provide.”
He added, “If an official is opposed to public safety measures, I would question their place in office. We need leaders who put the safety of their constituents first and foremost.”
The White House has responded to Healey and Wu’s resistance, with spokesperson Abigail Jackson criticizing their approach. She suggested that if their efforts were directed towards resolving crime in their cities instead of seeking media attention to attack the President, the public would be better served.
Jackson proclaimed, “Cracking down on crime should rise above partisan politics, but it appears these Democrats struggle to escape the shadow of TDS, or Trump Derangement Syndrome. They should heed the example of fellow Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser, who acknowledged the Trump administration’s success in reducing violent crime in Washington, D.C.”
Bowser’s office chose not to issue further comment, directing inquiries back to her past statements regarding crime rates.
