The NFL has officially suspended Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch for one game without pay following his involvement in a fight with Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster during Sunday night’s game.
In a letter to Branch, NFL Vice President of Football Operations Jon Runyan stated, “Your aggressive, non-football act was entirely unwarranted, posed a serious risk of injury, and clearly violated the standards of conduct and sportsmanship expected of NFL players.” Runyan continued to express that Branch’s conduct reflected poorly on the league and has no place in professional football.
In response to the suspension, reports indicate that Branch plans to appeal the decision, adding more tension to an already contentious situation.
