Philadelphia Eagles icon Brian Westbrook expressed his enthusiasm over head coach Nick Sirianni’s decision for the team to skip the Super Bowl LIX banner ceremony at Lincoln Financial Field. While the city of Philadelphia eagerly anticipates the unveiling of the franchise’s second Super Bowl banner during the kickoff of the 2025 season against the Dallas Cowboys, Westbrook appreciates the team’s commitment to pursuing more championships.
During an event with USAA, Westbrook discussed the Eagles’ mindset heading into the new season, emphasizing a refreshing approach that prioritizes hard work over celebration. He stated, “The one thing I love about this team this offseason was their approach. This offseason wasn’t about them doing a victory lap around Philadelphia and the United States saying they’re the best team in football. It wasn’t about that. It was about refocusing and saying, ‘Yeah, we won last year, but we have something else to prove.’ One is not enough, and we have to go out there and earn it again.”
Westbrook’s sentiments highlight a dedicated team atmosphere. Rather than reminiscing about last season’s triumph, this year’s Eagles are concentrating on future victories. Players are reportedly more engaged in offseason workouts than in celebrations of the Super Bowl win.
A significant part of this mentality stems from the leadership of quarterback Jalen Hurts. Westbrook described Hurts as having a “chip on his shoulder,” noting that despite being a Super Bowl MVP, he continues to seek validation from skeptics. “His ability to lead this team is essential,” Westbrook stated. “I appreciate that because I played with that fire as well. The dedication he shows reflects his character and commitment.”
As the Eagles prepare for the 2025 season, they have enhanced their roster significantly. A highlight of this offseason includes signing running back Saquon Barkley, who quickly made an impact in Philadelphia by leading the NFL in rushing yards during his debut year with the team.
In discussing Barkley, Westbrook emphasized the running back’s selflessness and team-oriented mindset. “Saquon is one of the best teammates you can have,” Westbrook said. “He understands the needs of the team, whether it’s blocking or running the ball.” This selflessness, Westbrook insists, contributes to a winning culture that can carry the team to greater success.
The Philadelphia Eagles aim to position themselves as a perennial contender. This year will test the team’s ability to produce consistent results. Westbrook reflects on conversations surrounding the concept of a dynasty, especially following the Kansas City Chiefs’ recent efforts to secure a third consecutive title.
