Brooks Nader has embraced a transformative path, leaving behind her conservative upbringing for a vibrant career in modeling.
The 28-year-old Nader hails from Baton Rouge, where she grew up in a household steeped in strict Christian values alongside her parents and three younger sisters. Despite her upbringing, she harbored dreams of a glamorous life in Hollywood.
In an interview with a prominent publication, Nader described how her aspirations seemed distant from the confines of her upbringing. She recalled that her family was entirely against her hopes of pursuing a modeling career.
Nader vividly recollected her childhood where financial struggles were common. Her father worked for a non-profit, and her mother stayed home to care for their children. She stated, “We didn’t have a lot of money, we really just had each other and had to be self-entertaining. I wouldn’t trade that upbringing for the world.” This close-knit environment shaped her resilience and creativity.
Despite her loving family environment, a yearning for self-expression consumed Nader. From a young age, she developed a fascination with fashion and a desire to look glamorous. “I always wanted to express myself and I wanted to look sexy,” she shared, adding that her dreams of living in places like Los Angeles or New York felt utterly unattainable.
At 18, Nader received an opportunity that would alter the course of her life. She connected with a modeling scout, which sparked her ambition to head to New York City. “I called my parents and said, ‘I’m moving to the Hamptons for the summer!’” she recalled. Though they disapproved, she forged ahead, securing a finance internship while also exploring modeling opportunities.
Nader made a bold decision to leave college, a choice that didn’t sit well with her parents. They expressed their strong concerns, telling her, “This is the dumbest thing you could ever do.” Yet Nader believed in her vision, paving her own path despite their disapproval.
Her early experiences in the industry involved grueling hours and low-pay jobs. She reflected on those starting days saying, “I’m thankful and grateful for those jobs to this day; they kept me afloat. You can’t wait for other people – it’s all up to you. You have to put in the work, go do it, and see the vision for yourself.”
Nader aspired to be featured in the esteemed Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Facing skepticism from her agency, which believed she lacked the star power for such an opportunity, she took matters into her own hands and attended an open-call audition in Miami.
After waiting eight hours with thousands of fellow aspirants, her determination paid off. Nader emerged as one of just six selected for the issue. Additionally, her popularity soared when fans voted her Rookie of the Year. “Then five years later, I made it onto the cover,” she shared, highlighting that this milestone earned her the respect she longed for within the industry.
Nader remains rooted in family values, expressing that being a good role model to her younger sisters is of utmost importance. She acknowledges the joy of collaborating and creating with them, reinforcing a strong family bond.
Reflecting on relationships, particularly regarding her former partner from Dancing with the Stars, Gleb Savchenko, Nader admitted to being content with her single status. “To impress me, it’s all about personality,” she affirmed. Understanding the importance of laughter and support, she values a partner who respects her aspirations. “I find it sexy when someone takes control and plans a date – whether you’re picking me up in a car or helicopter,” Nader remarked.
Nader’s personal journey included navigating the challenges of her divorce from Billy Haire, whom she met in 2015 and married four years later. The announcement of their split in 2024 marked a significant transition in her life. Reflecting on marriage expectations ingrained in her upbringing, she noted, “When I was younger, all I knew was that I should get married, have a husband and be a good wife.”
Now, with renewed focus, Nader is channeling her energy into her burgeoning career, which blossomed far beyond her youthful dreams. She shared her desire to portray a version of herself in a film, depicting a Southern girl navigating the big city. “Kind of like how Eva Longoria is pretty much herself in ‘Desperate Housewives’ – she always said she didn’t even have to act!”
With her sights set on future projects and a commitment to her roots, Brooks Nader exemplifies the mantra of following one’s dreams against all odds. Her story serves as inspiration for many, illustrating that it’s possible to redefine one’s identity while maintaining a connection to family and personal values.
As she continues to evolve in her career, Nader remains a testament to the power of determination and self-belief, proving that dreams can materialize even from the most unconventional beginnings.
