Bunnie XO recently took to social media to reflect on her tumultuous past, unveiling a series of mugshots that tell her story of struggle and redemption.
The artist, married to the popular musician Jelly Roll, opened up to her fans regarding her challenging history with the law. This introspective moment coincides with her upcoming book launch, set for next year, and aims to shed light on her journey.
Bunnie, whose full name is Alisa DeFord, expressed deep emotions as she reviewed her booking photos from over the years. She shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, thanking God for guiding her through her darkest moments, particularly during her battle with addiction.
Bunnie wrote, “Wow, just wowwww. I had no idea the emotions it would unlock when I asked my lawyer @troianovegaslaw to pull all my mugshots for me. We pulled them all for a really cool idea for merch for my book tour.” She vividly recounted the feelings evoked by the first mugshot, emphasizing her youthfulness at just 19 years old, while already living a life filled with hardships.
“Looking at the first one, I just couldn’t believe what a baby I was. I was 19, already living on the streets of Vegas for five years, couch to couch, or with whatever boyfriend would let me stay. By then I’d already lost three babies,” she revealed. Bunnie continued, stating that as the photos progressed, the sadness in her eyes became more apparent—a testament to her struggles with substance abuse.
“The fact that I’m smiling in some of these will let you know just how disconnected I was from myself and my emotions,” she added.
Furthermore, the host of the “Dumb Blonde” podcast expressed a poignant desire to embrace the girl seen in those earlier photos. She noted, “She thought surviving meant hyper-independence, fighting in the streets, barking loud and biting even harder—all survival instincts born from pain and disconnection.”
Reflecting on her experience, Bunnie mentioned her final mugshot taken at 26 years old, after being arrested for soliciting an undercover officer in a casino. “I can still see the drugs in my skin, the bloodshot eyes, the hollow look that comes when you’ve stopped caring if you wake up tomorrow. I was deep in addiction, lost in survival mode,” she recounted.
Despite her challenging past, Bunnie emphasized her journey towards recovery and self-awareness. She recounted a turning point: “I got sick. Sick of humiliating myself, sick of always having to start over, and sick of who I was as a human. I had to stop pointing fingers and realize—two things can be true: I was the problem and the solution.”
Bunnie emphasized that this journey was not just about accountability but also about divine support. “Even when I didn’t deserve it, God kept pulling me out of the fire. Every overdose that didn’t take me, every time I inserted myself in harm’s way. He said, ‘No, there’s still work for you to do, and what’s tea for them will be testimony for you.’”
She clarified that her mugshots serve not as a source of shame but rather as a powerful reminder of how far she has come: “I’m still learning. I’m still healing, but one thing is for certain—if He could do it for me, He can do it for you too.”
In response to her honesty, thousands of fans have praised Bunnie for her vulnerability and strength. Jelly Roll itself acknowledged the profound impact Bunnie’s journey has had on his life, stating, “I would have never become the man I am without you. It was your story that inspired mine, it was always you I was trying to be like.”
The musician expressed his gratitude, noting, “I’m glad the world is about to hear the real perseverance and see what God can really do. While people talked about us, judged us, and wished for our downfall, we just stayed the course and believed what God had for us, no man could take away.”
Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, has openly discussed his own legal troubles and issues with addiction. During a recent interview, he mentioned his past arrests and the lengthy probationary period he endured.
Since tying the knot in 2016, Bunnie has embraced a maternal role for Jelly Roll’s children from previous relationships, helping to create a blended family filled with love and support.
Bunnie’s story serves as a beacon of hope for many grappling with their battles. Her ability to confront her past head-on and share her journey is not just a personal narrative; it’s an invitation for others to embark on their paths to recovery. She encourages her followers who struggle to recognize that they, too, can reclaim their lives.
In the face of adversity, Bunnie XO exemplifies the resilience of the human spirit. Her message resonates loud and clear: healing and transformation are possible, and no one is too far gone to find a way back to themselves. She reminds us all that grace can offer powerful healing, and everyone has the capacity to rewrite their story.
