Caitlin Clark Cheers for Connor McCaffrey’s Butler Bulldogs in Big East Showdown

Caitlin Clark is poised to embark on her second season in the WNBA with the Indiana Fever. However, before she kicks off her campaign, she made the trip to Madison Square Garden to support her boyfriend on the college basketball stage.

Connor McCaffrey, Clark’s boyfriend, serves as an assistant coach for the Butler Bulldogs. He faced a challenging matchup against St. John’s during the Big East Tournament on Thursday evening.

As the game unfolded, Clark was seen sporting a Butler cap close to the team’s bench. Her enthusiastic reactions mirrored those she displayed when cheering on her former team, the Iowa Hawkeyes, in the Big Ten tournament. Despite her spirited presence, Butler ultimately succumbed to St. John’s, concluding the game with a score of 78-57.

St. John’s entered the contest as the top seed and favorite to win the Big East title, advancing to the semifinals of the tournament, which is set for Friday.

With a season record of 14 wins and 19 losses, Butler’s chances of making an appearance in the NCAA Tournament look bleak, despite the team’s best efforts throughout the season.

Connor McCaffrey is the son of iconic Hawkeyes men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffrey. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, he played for Iowa from 2017 to 2023, where he averaged 6.5 points and 4.1 rebounds over 166 games.

Following in the footsteps of his father, McCaffrey joined Butler’s coaching staff in September 2024 as an assistant coach. Before his current role, he worked as a basketball development coordinator with the Indiana Pacers in the NBA.

The timing of their respective careers has been convenient, given that Clark currently plays her home games at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, the same venue as the Pacers. In her debut season, Clark made waves by winning the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year award, shattering multiple rookie and league records.

Clark and McCaffrey have been in a relationship for nearly two years now, sharing a mutual support system as they pursue their athletic goals.

While McCaffrey’s season with the Bulldogs may be drawing to a close, Clark’s WNBA season is set to begin in May. The Fever will kick off their 2025 campaign against the Chicago Sky.

This dynamic couple continues to inspire fans with their dedication to their respective sports, and their journeys highlight the intersection of love and athletics.
