Caitlin Clark has once again etched her name in the WNBA record books, yet she faced a bitter disappointment as her Indiana Fever fell to the Atlanta Dream with a final score of 91-90 Tuesday night in Indianapolis.
The Fever, trailing 44-42 at halftime, found themselves on the brink of defeat as the Dream unleashed an impressive 11-0 run. Clark, however, continued to showcase her exceptional skills, poised for a second consecutive triple-double this season.
As the fourth quarter unfolded, Indiana found themselves down by 11 points. Clark responded with two spectacular deep three-pointers, coupled with an impressive behind-the-back assist, closing the gap to just four points.
Despite the Fever struggling to get closer for several minutes, they finally managed to tie the game with only a minute remaining. In a tense moment, Aliyah Boston stepped up to the free-throw line, gaining Indiana its first lead since the opening basket. The foul that sent Boston to the line was committed by Brittney Griner, resulting in her fouling out of the game.
The drama intensified as Rhyne Howard of the Dream sank two free throws with just 9.7 seconds left on the clock, granting Atlanta a one-point lead. In a crucial moment, Clark inbounded the ball but did not get another chance to touch it. The Fever missed two critical shots that could have altered the outcome, and the Dream secured a narrow victory.
Despite the loss, Clark delivered a remarkable performance, finishing the game with 27 points and 11 assists. This game marked the tenth occasion in her young career where she scored over 20 points and dished out at least 10 assists, tying the WNBA record previously set by Courtney Vandersloot. Notably, Vandersloot did this across 430 games, while Clark has achieved it in just 42.
Tuesday’s game also marked a significant milestone for Clark, as she recorded her 350th career assist, making her the fastest player in WNBA history to achieve that number in such a limited number of games. Furthermore, she surpassed 800 career points, becoming the fourth fastest player in the league to reach this milestone.
On the opposing side, Brittney Griner finished the game with 21 points and eight rebounds, contributing significantly to the Dream’s success.
This matchup followed a tense weekend for the Fever, as the WNBA announced it was investigating reports of
