The Trump administration is pressing sanctuary Democrats to cease support for illegal immigrants after an incident in Los Angeles where an immigrant activist allegedly rammed his vehicle into ICE agents. This led to agents opening fire during the confrontation.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security, informed Fox News Digital that during a targeted enforcement operation on Tuesday, a 44-year-old undocumented immigrant named Carlitos Ricardo Parias “weaponized his vehicle and began ramming the law enforcement vehicle in an attempt to flee.” This alarming act has raised safety concerns for both law enforcement and civilians.
In her statement, McLaughlin emphasized the need for defensive measures, saying, “Fearing for the safety of the public and law enforcement, our officers followed their training and fired defensive shots.” The results of this encounter were significant. Parias suffered an elbow injury from a gunshot, while a U.S. Marshals Service officer sustained hand injuries due to a ricochet bullet. Fortunately, both individuals have been reported as stable and were transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening surgery.
Local news outlet ABC 7 reported that Parias is a well-known TikTok influencer, going by the alias “Richard LA.” The report indicates that he regularly records and follows ICE agents, and following the shooting, protests emerged outside the hospital in response to both Parias’ arrest and ICE’s actions.
According to McLaughlin, Parias had previously encountered law enforcement but managed to elude arrest. He entered the United States illegally on an unspecified date and location, accumulating a dossier of infractions including driving without a license, failing to demonstrate financial responsibility, and resisting arrest.
In light of these events, the Department of Homeland Security is pursuing criminal charges against Parias for assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal law enforcement officers.
McLaughlin characterized the situation as a consequence of the actions and rhetoric of sanctuary politicians and activists, stating, “these are the consequences of conduct and rhetoric by sanctuary politicians who urge illegal aliens to resist arrest.” She called for a collaborative effort to ameliorate tensions between law enforcement agencies and communities.
Furthermore, she called out notable Democratic figures for allegedly encouraging illegal immigrants to defy ICE, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, and California Governor Gavin Newsom. McLaughlin asserted that these politicians have facilitated an environment where illegal actions might be tolerated.
In defense of his administration’s actions, a spokesperson for Governor Newsom spoke to Fox News Digital, claiming that President Trump and White House Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller are orchestrating an unprecedented deportation campaign while neglecting due process and putting citizens and law enforcement at risk. The spokesperson criticized the aggressive nature of recent arrests, suggesting they represent a public relations strategy designed to instill fear.
The spokesperson expressed concerns over the Trump administration’s approach, stating, “These aggressive arrests are a PR campaign, using fear and force. They want to manufacture chaos, then blame others.” The spokesperson added, “The federal government is unnecessarily endangering our law enforcement officers, who are striving to serve their communities amid this turmoil.”
According to this spokesperson, the current approach to immigration law enforcement does not need to incite terror among communities. They reiterated, “Immigration law can be enforced without a message of terror. “
Fox News Digital attempted to reach representatives from Ocasio-Cortez and Bass for comment, but no immediate responses were provided.
Additionally, Abigail Jackson, a spokesperson from the White House, remarked that ICE officers have faced a staggering 1000% increase in assaults, attributing this rise to incendiary rhetoric from activists and Democratic politicians who allegedly vilify ICE officers. Jackson made it clear that those who perpetrate violence against law enforcement will face legal repercussions, noting, “Anyone who assaults or otherwise harms law enforcement officers will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”
In a resounding statement, she urged Democrats to reconsider their position, declaring, “Democrats must stop siding with illegal aliens over American law enforcement.”
