Chili’s, the well-known casual dining chain, is making significant changes to its menu by removing several popular items from its kids’ and dessert selections. This decision has sparked widespread outrage among its loyal customers, who now find themselves grappling with the fallout from these changes.
In late September, members of the Reddit community r/Chilis raised alarms about the new menu after a user leaked a photograph that seemingly showcased the impending alterations.
The impacted items include favorites such as the Kids Pepperoni Pizza, Kids Cheese Quesadillas, and the beloved Mini Molten dessert. Customers vented their frustrations online, expressing disappointment over the sudden loss of these dishes.
The backlash largely focused on the removal of the Kids Cheese Quesadilla, which one Reddit user described as their child’s go-to meal. “No more kids quesadillas! That’s my daughter’s favorite!” lamented one diner. Many others shared similar sentiments, recalling the Mini Molten as an optimal dessert choice.
“I’m not letting my kid have a full Molten; that’s way too much,” one parent claimed. “The Mini Molten was perfect for the two of us to share.”
Another customer expressed deep dismay at the news of the Mini Molten’s removal. “No more Mini Molten? My daughter will be devastated,” they noted. “She loved having her own dessert.”
As discussions continued to unfold on social media, countless diners questioned the rationale behind removing such straightforward items. The Kids Quesadilla, particularly, raised eyebrows amongst loyal patrons. “Yeah, I’m really confused on that,” one individual commented. “We have tortillas and we have cheese. Why would they discontinue it?”
Another frustrated diner pointed out the simplicity of the dish: “It is literally two tortillas baked with cheese. They don’t even fry them.”
Fox News Digital reached out to a Chili’s spokesperson, who confirmed that these changes form part of a broader strategy to streamline the menu. “As part of our ongoing simplification efforts, we are removing Mini Moltens in favor of full-sized portions, and will also be eliminating Kids Pepperoni Pizza and Kids Cheese Quesadillas,” the spokesperson stated.
However, the spokesperson reassured patrons that the Kids Cheese Pizza would continue to be featured on the kids’ menu, allowing some elements of familiarity for young diners.
On a positive note, the chain is set to launch a new offering called Southwestern Queso on October 7. This item is designed to replace the Skillet Beef and White Skillet Quesos, showcasing a blend of American and cheddar cheeses combined with fire-roasted green chilies, onions, and a hint of lime aimed at delivering bold flavors. During its initial rollout period from October 7 to October 21, My Chili’s members will receive a complimentary portion of the new queso, limited to one per member.
While the removal of beloved items has frustrated many longtime patrons, the introduction of the Southwestern Queso aims to inject new excitement into the dining experience. It remains to be seen, however, whether this addition will suffice to soothe the discontent generated by the menu cuts.
As diners gear up to try the new queso, the ongoing conversation regarding customers’ favorites will likely remain a focal point. The balance between innovation and tradition is a tricky tightrope to walk for any dining establishment, particularly one as beloved as Chili’s.
The coming weeks will be crucial as both longtime customers and newcomers sample the revamped offerings, and the chain witnesses their reactions.
