The Cleveland Browns have made a significant roster cut as they finalize their team ahead of the 2025 regular season. This move comes after the team’s final preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams.

On Sunday, the Browns announced they released quarterback Tyler Huntley. With this decision, the quarterback room now consists of four players: Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski expressed satisfaction with the team’s efforts during the preseason. He said, “I thought it was a good finish to that preseason as a football team, just to make sure that these guys gave that type of effort. So really pleased.” Stefanski acknowledged the challenging nature of roster cuts, noting, “Obviously, now that the cut down starts to come over the next couple days, one of the tough parts of this business is just that.”

He continued, “We’ll work through that over the next 48 hours and then got four good days of work with the team Monday through Thursday. Then take that break over Labor Day before we get started the following week versus Cincinnati. So, a lot of work to be done and we’re excited to get to that work.”

Huntley joined the Browns’ roster following an injury to Pickett. In his limited time on the field during the fourth quarter against the Rams, Huntley completed 10 out of 13 passes for 71 yards, showcasing his ability even in a brief appearance.

The Browns have confirmed that Flacco will start as the quarterback in Week 1. Pickett is projected to return, likely serving as Flacco’s backup. Stefanski remains optimistic about Pickett’s recovery, stating, “He’s getting better every day” as he rehabilitates from a hamstring injury.

In the offseason, Cleveland added Flacco to bolster their quarterback lineup and traded for Pickett from the Philadelphia Eagles. Additionally, the team drafted Gabriel and Sanders to further enhance their roster depth.

Despite having moments of struggle, particularly against the Rams, both Sanders and Gabriel appear to have secured their spots for now. Sanders faced difficulties in his final preseason game, getting sacked five times, while Gabriel managed to throw a touchdown pass.
