In a significant operation on Monday, the U.S. Coast Guard successfully offloaded an unprecedented 76,000 pounds of illegal drugs in Florida. This event marks the largest drug seizure in the agency’s history during a single operation.

The drugs, which comprised 61,740 pounds of cocaine and 14,400 pounds of marijuana, were unloaded at Port Everglades as part of the ambitious Operation Pacific Viper. The total street value of these drugs is estimated at a staggering $473 million.

In addition to this monumental seizure, the Cutter Hamilton has recorded multiple significant exploits. For instance, on June 26, the crew interdicted two vessels off the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador, resulting in a seizure of over 8,800 pounds of cocaine. Furthermore, on July 23, they apprehended a vessel near Socorro Island, Mexico, seizing more than 9,160 pounds of cocaine.

The Coast Guard has noted that approximately 80% of illegal drug interdictions occur on the high seas. This highlights the importance of effective maritime strategies in combating drug trafficking organizations.
