Cody Rhodes and John Cena are set to face off at WrestleMania 41 with the Undisputed WWE Championship at stake. As the pro wrestling world turns its attention to this monumental event, both superstars are prepared to make their mark.
John Cena, who claimed victory in the men’s Elimination Chamber match, has teamed up with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. This new alliance has transformed Cena into a compelling antagonist, driving Rhodes to pursue what would be a record-breaking 17th world title.
For years, Cena represented the quintessential babyface in WWE, building a substantial following, particularly among younger fans. Despite receiving boos from segments of the audience, he remained unwavering in embodying the values of hustle, loyalty, and respect.
However, his recent heel turn has opened avenues for fresh narratives, especially as he approaches what appears to be his final year in professional wrestling. Ahead of a recent episode of “Monday Night Raw” in London, Rhodes shared insights with Fox News Digital regarding their impending match. He expressed that squaring off against Cena feels like a brand new experience.
Rhodes said, “I look at a lot of stuff now, like John and my match at WrestleMania 41. I really look at it like it’s the first time ever. John was someone who came in and, not right away, but he did find his footing quickly in terms of who he was going to be. He carried his brand firmly and disciplined for a long time, particularly during a transitional phase for WWE. He helped pull the wagon, no doubt. I have always thought of him as a benchmark—good guy or bad guy. If you wanted to compete, you needed to elevate your game to his level. Otherwise, he’d leave you behind.”
Cody’s reflections came as he represented WWE in partnership with Clash of Clans. He admitted that he never envisioned Cena turning heel.
“Now, looking at the matchup, that’s why I say it feels like a first-time-ever for me,” Rhodes continued. “Early in my career, I hadn’t yet found my footing or identity. However, following several past interactions in the ring, I feel we truly understand each other now. I never imagined that this would be a WrestleMania headline match, especially under current circumstances. Yet, that unpredictability is the beauty of pro wrestling; it defies expectations.”
In the latest episode of “Monday Night Raw,” Rhodes and Cena appeared to face off for what may very well be the last time before their highly anticipated match in Las Vegas.
The confrontation commenced with exchanges of barbs, highlighting the intensity of their rivalry. The segment concluded dramatically when Rhodes executed his finishing move, Cross Rhodes, leaving Cena down in the center of the ring.
WrestleMania 41 is scheduled for April 19-20, promising a blend of excitement and drama as these two iconic figures collide.
