Community Mourns Retired Border Agent Among Victims of Texas Casino Shooting

A tragic shooting incident at the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass, Texas, resulted in the death of two individuals, including a retired U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent. Marcus “Mark” Antley, a former law enforcement officer, has been identified as one of the victims, according to Mayor Aaron Valdez.

Mayor Valdez took to social media to express his condolences and to highlight the significant impact Mr. Antley had on the community. Valdez described Antley as a cherished figure, revered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his kindness and dedication to public service.

In his heartfelt message, Valdez stated, “Mr. Antley dedicated much of his life to public service and law enforcement. He will be remembered not only for his career but also for his generosity, leadership, and the lasting friendships he built throughout Eagle Pass and the region. His passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of many.”

Support for Victims’ Families

Dimmit County Judge Martha Alicia Gomez Ponce reported that the second victim of the shooting was also a resident of Dimmit County. She called upon the community to unite in support of the victims and their families during this incredibly difficult time.

Ponce wrote, “Let us come together in unity and support for the victims and their loved ones within our Dimmit County community. My deepest condolences go out to the families impacted by this heartbreaking event.”

Investigation and Arrest of Suspect

Authorities have identified the suspect as Keryan Rashad Jones, a 34-year-old from San Antonio. Following a brief chase, Jones was apprehended in Wilson County. Currently, he remains in custody in Wilson County, but he is expected to be extradited back to Eagle Pass to face charges related to the shooting.

Police utilized vehicle tracking and license plate recognition systems to locate Jones. He now faces serious charges, including two counts of capital murder and five counts of assault with a deadly weapon.

Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantú praised the coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies at all levels that led to Jones’s capture. He emphasized the importance of justice for the families affected by this devastating incident.

Judge Cantú stated, “Together, our local, state, and federal partners worked around the clock to bring this individual into custody. Now, we must assure justice for the victims and their families. We will not tolerate violence in our community.”
