Condoleezza Rice Asserts US Strikes on Iran Bolster National Credibility

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice characterized recent military actions by the United States and Israel against Iran’s nuclear facilities as a pivotal moment for the Middle East. She asserted these strikes enhance American credibility on the global stage.

During her appearance on Special Report, Rice praised the U.S. military and Israeli forces for executing an operation that significantly targets Iran’s nuclear ambitions. In a broadcast on Thursday, she expressed optimism regarding the effectiveness of these strikes.

Rice noted, “We will eventually know precisely how much the Iranian program was damaged, but all evidence points to substantial damage. For the foreseeable future, it will be challenging for them to advance their nuclear weapon capabilities.”

Details of Operation Midnight Hammer

The U.S. strikes, named Operation Midnight Hammer, specifically targeted three Iranian nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. Early on Sunday morning, U.S. B-2 bombers and Tomahawk missiles launched assaults on these critical facilities.

According to reports, B-2 bombers flew non-stop for 37 hours from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri. They successfully delivered a total of 12 GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators on the Fordow facility and two on Natanz. Moreover, more than two dozen cruise missiles were launched at Isfahan from a U.S. submarine.

Top officials from the Trump administration maintained that the military operation resulted in a significant reduction of Iran’s nuclear capabilities, despite ongoing inquiries about the status of the country’s highly enriched uranium.

Military Success and Future Diplomatic Efforts

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth emphasized the complexity and secrecy surrounding the military operation. He termed it one of the most sophisticated roles performed in U.S. history.

At a press briefing on Thursday, Hegseth stated, “President Trump directed the most complex and secretive military operation in history. This operation was a resounding success, leading to a ceasefire agreement and effectively bringing the 12 Day War to an end.” He continued, “Because of decisive military action, we succeeded in setting the conditions required to halt further conflict, by neutralizing the Iranian nuclear threat.”

Rice reinforced her belief that the U.S. strikes have dramatically hindered Iran’s nuclear advancement. However, she expressed concern about a leaked preliminary intelligence assessment from the Defense Intelligence Agency. This report suggested that key components of Iran’s nuclear facilities remained intact, which Rice deemed as “irresponsible.”

The Regional Impact of a Weakened Iran

Reflecting on the broader implications of the strikes, Rice noted advancements made by Israel against groups like Hezbollah and Hamas. She argued these actions contribute to a more stable region.

Rice said, “The significant efforts undertaken against Iran’s military establishment and its scientific community present an opportunity for improved regional stability. A weakened Iran is advantageous for the Middle East context.”

Challenges in Diplomatic Negotiations

In light of these military actions, the Trump administration aims to initiate diplomatic talks with Iranian officials. Nonetheless, Rice expressed skepticism about the Iranian regime’s willingness to pursue peace, emphasizing that the foundation of their legitimacy lies in an adversarial stance towards Israel.

She stated, “For 46 years, Iran has worked to destabilize the region, impacting American lives and perpetuating terror against various nations. Thus, I harbor no illusions about their desire for peace.”

U.S. Credibility on the World Stage

Rice further asserted that the recent strikes serve as a much-needed boost for American credibility after the contentious withdrawal from Afghanistan under former President Joe Biden.

She remarked, “Credibility isn’t secured overnight. It’s an ongoing commitment. The United States must actively shape the international landscape instead of merely reacting to it. Recent developments have significantly enhanced American credibility in the global arena.”

In summary, Rice’s remarks highlight the complexities surrounding U.S. foreign policy and military strategy in relation to Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The unfolding dynamics suggest a critical period not only for U.S. credibility but also for regional stability in the Middle East.
