Conservative Student Breaks Silence to Launch Turning Point Chapter at William & Mary

“There has been a lot of discussion on that platform among students,” Keller remarked. “They seem more comfortable criticizing our efforts behind a screen, rather than engaging in direct dialogue.” Many of the comments she encountered were disrespectful and derogatory, particularly following the tragic assassination of Charlie Kirk, a co-founder of Turning Point USA.

The 20-year-old student pointed out that the anonymity provided by digital platforms emboldens individuals to make inappropriate remarks. “It’s disturbing what people are willing to say online that they would likely never voice in person,” Keller added. This discrepancy between online and face-to-face interactions reflects a broader trend impacting conservative voices on campus.

Preempting Protests

In light of planned protests against the Chapter’s informational meeting held on October 20, Keller took proactive measures by contacting campus security. She expressed anxiety about the potential size and intensity of the protest, stating, “I had never dealt with a protest before and wasn’t sure how disruptive it could become.” The university’s faculty and staff provided essential support, facilitating security arrangements to ensure the meeting could proceed without interruption.

Keller, who is pursuing a degree in marketing, shared her experience regarding the personal toll of being a conservative voice on campus.
