Balancing a thriving music career and a two-decade-long military service has not been easy. However, Morgan revealed that “humility and pride” dominated his thoughts as he considered the significance of his promotion.

“Two things were resonating within me: humility and pride,” he explained. “I hope people recognize the pride we have in our nation and our uniform as service members.” Through his words, Morgan conveyed a sense of responsibility to represent those who may never receive such recognition.

Morgan’s military journey began with 17 years of service in the Army and Army Reserve, primarily with the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions. He rose through the ranks, serving as a Staff Sergeant and Fire Support Specialist while earning various certifications, including Airborne, Air Assault, and Rappel Master. He has successfully maintained his music career alongside his military obligations.

Before his recent promotion, Morgan held the rank of Staff Sergeant. Throughout his career, he has skillfully juggled the demands of touring and recording with his dedication to military service.

Reasons for Reenlisting in the Army Reserve

In 2023, Morgan made the decision to reenlist in the Army Reserve at the age of 59, a choice driven by multiple factors. He explained that leaving the Army initially posed challenges, especially when he pursued a career in music. Despite his love for music, he felt compelled to serve.

“There were times when I questioned whether I could balance both,” Morgan admitted. “When I left the Army, it was to pursue a music career, but there were always lingering thoughts about service.”

His current career success has provided him with the resources needed to manage both worlds effectively. “I couldn’t afford to hire support during the early stages of my music career, but now it’s different,” Morgan shared. “I’ve built a significant company and I have a team that supports me.”

Morgan emphasized the importance of utilizing military resources as he continues his journey. He described himself as a once self-reliant individual who realized the value of teamwork. “I’ve learned to lean on the resources available to us as soldiers,” he explained, indicating a shift in mindset that complements his growth in both military and music careers.
