Los Angeles County’s Democratic leadership faces intense backlash following their declaration of a state of emergency in response to federal immigration enforcement activities. Roxanne Hoge, the chair of the county’s GOP, scathingly remarked that this decision was a “slap in the face” to American citizens.
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to initiate a local state of emergency. This measure, which the Board linked to the actions of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations, aims to assist residents impacted by these raids by providing legal advice and rent relief.
The Board’s proclamation directs county departments to implement urgent actions to safeguard and stabilize communities adversely affected by federal immigration enforcement. These actions focus on mitigating the fallout from heightened enforcement operations.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Hoge expressed her frustration with the current state of governance in Los Angeles. She stated that living in California, particularly in Los Angeles, feels like navigating a never-ending series of ineffective policies.
Hoge accused the progressive-led Board of Supervisors of disregarding the needs of law-abiding citizens. She emphasized that instead of addressing pressing civic issues such as public safety and cleanliness, the Board has prioritized illegal immigrants by proposing expenditures of taxpayer money on ineffective programs.
“You would think a state of emergency would address severe issues like rampant crime or infrastructural failures, but instead, it seems lawmakers focus on appeasing those who do not contribute to society,” Hoge observed. She remarked that the celebration of this emergency declaration appeared misguided given the county’s considerable challenges, such as homelessness and severe housing shortages.
At the heart of Hoge’s criticism lies the belief that the Board should confront issues like criminal elements wreaking havoc in the community, rather than focusing exclusively on immigration. She noted the alarming rise in violence associated with organized crime, suggesting the focus should return to maintaining public order and safety.
Addressing members of the Board directly, Hoge underscored the need for attentiveness to the challenges faced by Los Angeles residents. “It would be refreshing to see them prioritize the needs of hardworking Californians, particularly during such turbulent times,
