FIRST ON FOX: Dan Koh, the candidate endorsed by former Vice President Kamala Harris for Massachusetts’ 6th Congressional District, is under scrutiny for owning a million-dollar residence in Washington, D.C., located hundreds of miles from the district he aims to represent.
Koh, who served in several senior roles during the Biden administration, is competing in a dense field to succeed outgoing Democratic Representative Seth Moulton, who is running for the Senate. Despite his candidacy for a suburban Massachusetts district, Koh and his wife acquired a home in a posh part of Capitol Hill, purchasing the property for approximately $1.3 million in 2022, as indicated by records from the DC Office of Tax and Revenue.
In addition to the DC property, the couple also owns a home in Andover, Massachusetts, which lies within the 6th Congressional District. The Andover residence was bought in 2019 for $810,000, according to the North Essex Registry of Deeds.
Amy Carnevale, chair of the Massachusetts Republican Party, criticized Koh’s real estate situation. Speaking to Fox News Digital, she remarked, “Living full time in DC with a no-show house in Massachusetts seems to be a family tradition amongst MassDems.” This statement addresses a growing public concern regarding the disconnect between politicians and their constituents.
Carnevale further pointed out that Senator Ed Markey, another Massachusetts Democrat, has been labeled the “Senator from Chevy Chase” due to his infrequent presence in Massachusetts. She suggested that Koh risks following the same pattern, saying, “What a shame for actual residents of Massachusetts who deserve better.”
In defense of Koh, a spokesperson for his campaign stated that he lives full time in Andover, where he and his wife have resided for over six years. They clarified that Koh lived in D.C. only during his tenure as a senior White House official within the Biden-Harris administration.
Public tax records show that as of August, Koh and his wife still retain ownership of the D.C. home. The contrast between living in the established political hub and campaigning for a constituency in another state raises questions about his commitment to local issues.
Koh’s candidacy gained traction when Harris officially endorsed him on October 28. She praised Koh’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of working families, stating, “During our time in the White House, I saw Dan’s steadfast drive to make life better — and more affordable — for working people.”
The Vice President emphasized his readiness for the role, saying, “He knows how to get things done, will be the fighter you deserve, and is ready on day one.” Harris encouraged voters in Massachusetts’ 6th District to support Koh’s campaign.
