David Duchovny, renowned for his role as FBI Agent Fox Mulder alongside Gillian Anderson’s Agent Scully in the iconic series The X-Files, continues his quest for truth. After nearly a decade of delving into the supernatural, Duchovny is now capturing attention as the host and producer of a new series on the History Channel titled Secrets Declassified with David Duchovny. This captivating 10-part series aims to uncover the government’s most secretive, bizarre, and mind-bending activities that have only recently been declassified.
The 64-year-old actor shared with Fox News Digital that he firmly believes the truth exists just beyond our grasp.
Revealing Hidden Government Stories
In a candid interview, Duchovny articulated his views on government transparency. He stated, “What I find true is that there are certain things that the government has always done in secret, and that’s just the way of doing business.” He emphasized that interests do not always align, creating a necessity for occasional covert actions.
Duchovny expressed fascination with the stories he will be highlighting. He explained that the tales reveal flawed individuals striving to make difficult decisions, leading to actions that occasionally miss the mark entirely. “You ask yourself, how the hell did you think that was going to work?” he remarked. However, he also acknowledged the serious implications of government actions that may inflict harm, illustrating the complex nature of such narratives.
Episode Highlights: Secrets and the Skies
The inaugural episode, which premieres this Friday, brings an astonishing story to light—how a plane crash in North Carolina nearly triggered a nuclear disaster. The episode will also dive into the enigmatic Area 51, a former top-secret military installation famously linked to UFO lore.
Duchovny aims to clarify misconceptions surrounding these legends while spotlighting experts who provide insight into the stories depicted.
He commented, “These files we’re dealing with on the show are declassified. For the sake of protecting living individuals, many files will retain classification for the duration of their lifetimes.” He emphasized the significance of revealing previously undisclosed stories related to Area 51, maintaining that insights drawn from government files provide invaluable context.
Skepticism and Drone Sightings
Unlike his character Mulder, Duchovny adopts a skeptical approach to some of the mysteries that intrigue the public. He cited the numerous sightings of mysterious drones across New Jersey and the Eastern United States in late 2024. While speculation ran rampant, Duchovny offered a straightforward explanation. “I think they were drones,” he chuckled, aligning his perspective with Occam’s razor—the principle that suggests the simplest explanation often proves to be the correct one.
His assessment aligns with investigations conducted by the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security, and state agencies. Officials concluded that many reported sightings involved legal drones as well as manned aircraft and even stars, dismissing the idea that they posed a significant security threat.
The JFK Files: A Case of No Conspiracy
The spotlight also shines on the JFK files. In March, over 63,000 pages of documents pertaining to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy were released following an order by then-President Donald Trump. Many of these documents were previously redacted, obstructing historians’ efforts to piece together a comprehensive narrative, contributing significantly to conspiracy theories.
Oscar-winning filmmaker Oliver Stone, widely recognized for his portrayal of the assassination in his 1991 film JFK, expressed a desire for a new congressional investigation. Duchovny, however, remains unconvinced about the existence of conspiracy.
He stated, “What’s interesting about the declassification of the JFK files is that there’s no new information about a conspiracy because there was no conspiracy. There is no conspiracy.” Duchovny’s viewpoint posits that while some individuals within the government may commit wrongdoings, it does not imply a vast, coordinated conspiracy.
Understanding Human Behavior in a Complex World
Reflecting on the complexities of human nature, he articulated, “There are some bad actors, and some people commit crimes in whatever name they serve. But there’s no grand conspiracy at play here, and no new insights regarding significant conspiracy theories.” He acknowledged that new revelations could be engaging if they emerge, but for now, he finds his current life equally intriguing.
Duchovny’s reflections encompass the notion that the universe likely contains other life forms. Nonetheless, he confessed that he does not actively ponder extraterrestrial matters.
He observed, “When you analyze a series like this, it becomes evident that any conspiracies are typically confined to groups of a few people striving for unique objectives. There’s no grand conspiracy, and there hasn’t been historically, either… Such endeavors generally result from small factions of individuals engaging in bizarre activities to achieve their goals.”
Duchovny argues that if a grand conspiracy existed, it would eventually unravel. For him, everyday life presents enough mystery and intrigue.
Truth, Conspiracies, and Secrets
Secrets Declassified captivated Duchovny due to its foundation in the pursuit of truth. He is acutely aware of the myriad conspiracy theories pervading contemporary discourse. “I don’t believe in 99% of them,” he reiterated, framing his motivation for participating in the series.
He contends that the series focuses on narratives that provoke many theories and speculations, yet the aim remains to present the actual truth behind these stories. Duchovny acknowledges that conspiratorial thinking is difficult to eradicate entirely, asserting that many will likely view the revelations as part of a larger conspiracy. However, he steadfastly concludes that truth often defies fiction.
A light-hearted inquiry into Duchovny’s potential secrets drew humor. When asked if he holds secrets worthy of Mulder’s attention, he quipped, “All those secrets are classified until after my death. Hopefully, maybe 60 years after my death.” Duchovny’s blend of skepticism and intrigue promises to draw viewers in as Secrets Declassified unfolds.
