During the ‘Fighting for Our Future’ event at the Voters of Tomorrow Summit in Washington, D.C., progressive leaders urged President Donald Trump to release all documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Former Democratic National Committee vice chair David Hogg emphasized the need for transparency, stating that not only should President Joe Biden have released these files, but Trump should also do so. Hogg went further, suggesting that Trump is reluctant to act because he is on Epstein’s so-called list.

In response to Hogg’s sharp criticism, White House Principal Deputy Press Secretary Harrison Fields quickly dismissed the remarks, suggesting that the majority of Americans find Hogg’s perspective unworthy of attention. Fields asserted that very few care about Hogg’s opinions, stating that people would prefer listening to nails on a chalkboard than engaging with his viewpoints.
Malcolm Kenyatta, another prominent Democratic figure and DNC vice chair, highlighted the hypocrisy in Trump’s efforts to talk about law enforcement while allegedly hiding documents connected to Epstein. He criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson for effectively shutting down the legislative process, questioning the motives behind delaying what he sees as a critical issue.
In a notable bipartisan effort, Khanna and Republican Representative Thomas Massie from Kentucky introduced the Epstein Files Transparency Act. This important legislation aims to mandate a vote in the House on the comprehensive release of all government files regarding Epstein.
Speaker Johnson has reiterated his stance that all credible evidence concerning Epstein should be made public, chastising Democrats for allegedly weaponizing the issue for political gain. However, he has also taken decisive action by allowing Congress to adjourn early for the August recess, preventing any possibility of a vote on this bipartisan resolution.
Khanna expressed an urgent desire for progress, stating that he hopes the President will cooperate fully in releasing the necessary documents. He emphasizes the importance of building trust with the public moving forward.
While Khanna insisted that the names of victims should remain redacted to protect their privacy, he advocates for the disclosure of all other pertinent information. His hope is that the details shared will clarify who among business, political, and foreign leaders has been implicated in Epstein’s activities.
