In the current political landscape, accusations of partisan manipulation often arise, and Democrats have recently found themselves at the center of such claims. Their narrative surrounding immigration and ongoing events underscores a tendency to obscure the truth while amplifying divergent stories.
Let’s address the facts directly. The case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, an individual linked to MS-13, is often misunderstood. Claims of a wrongful deportation, circulating among Democratic lawmakers, are misleading. This assertion originated from a miscommunication in a legal brief by a Department of Justice lawyer who has since lost their position.
In 2019, two separate courts affirmed that Garcia was not only a member of the gang but also present in the United States illegally. During a bond hearing, an immigration judge concluded that Garcia posed a danger to the community and he did not effectively dispute evidence of his gang affiliation. Contrary to Democrats’ assertions, Garcia has received ample due process, with multiple reviews resulting in the same outcome.
It is critical to understand that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is not simply a Maryland resident; rather, he is an El Salvadoran national with a violent criminal history and connections to a recognized terrorist organization. As of February 2025, with the formal designation of MS-13 as a foreign terrorist group, he has lost any legal standing to remain in the United States or pursue further immigration relief.
Compounding the issue, a recent district court ruling attempted to mandate Garcia’s return from El Salvador, presenting itself as unconstitutional. Judicial orders cannot obligate the Executive Branch to engage with foreign entities in particular manners, as foreign policy is the domain of the President, not the judiciary. This ruling not only violates constitutional principles but also creates a precedent that could complicate executive actions.
Democrats frequently chant phrases like “bring him home,” yet they neglect a fundamental truth: Garcia is a citizen of El Salvador. His deportation was not a violation of court orders; rather, it adhered to well-established legal and national security principles. The immigration judge’s earlier decision to grant Garcia statutory withholding of removal was based on fear of persecution, not on his legal status in the U.S. Furthermore, the designation of MS-13 as a terrorist organization means Garcia is ineligible for any immigration relief.
While Democrats focus on an individual linked to terrorism, they appear to ignore the pressing issues facing American citizens. For instance, in the first 50 days of the Trump administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement conducted 32,809 enforcement arrests, including over 14,111 of individuals with criminal records. Instead of acknowledging these law enforcement successes, Democrats remain conspicuously silent on border security.
When the opportunity arose to support the Laken Riley Act, a common-sense legislative effort designed to enhance penalties for criminal illegal aliens, a significant number of Democratic lawmakers voted against it. Specifically, 35 Democrats in the Senate and 156 in the House chose to oppose this essential safety measure.
Senator Chuck Schumer’s outrage was notably absent when a 92-year-old woman was tragically raped and murdered in Queens in 2020 by an illegal alien previously arrested and released due to sanctuary policies. Similarly, Senator Richard Blumenthal did not voice his concern when Casey Chadwick was murdered in 2015 by Jean Jacques, an illegal alien who had a history of attempted murder charges.
The situation involving Senator Chris Van Hollen adds another layer of irony. He traveled far and potentially expended taxpayer money to spend time with a violent criminal, yet Democrats have dedicated more time and taxpayer-funded resources discussing Garcia than they have honoring victims within their own communities.
Repeatedly, Democrats exhibit compassion for illegal immigrants during moments of victimization, while resisting measures to prosecute or prevent crimes committed by these individuals. This pattern distracts from the reality of President Trump’s efforts to ensure national security and public safety.
If Democratic lawmakers shifted even a fraction of their focus from defending Garcia to advocating for American victims, perhaps the tragic deaths of individuals such as Laken Riley and Rachel Morin could have been avoided. The priorities of the Democrats are evident, and the facts surrounding Garcia’s removal speak for themselves. It was not just warranted; it was overdue.
