The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem has stated that “radicals” are challenging her leadership as demands for her resignation grow in response to a strict immigration crackdown in Minnesota.

During a recent appearance on Hannity, Noem remarked, “These radicals are attacking me, but I’m just doing my job. I’m following the law and enforcing the policies as President Trump promised to do to keep people safe in this country.” Her comments come amidst rising scrutiny following the tragic deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good during federal immigration enforcement operations in the state.

High-profile Democrats, including Senator John Fetterman from Pennsylvania and California Governor Gavin Newsom, have voiced their concerns and called for her removal. Fetterman claimed, “Americans have died. She is betraying DHS’s core mission and undermining your border security legacy. DO NOT make the mistake President Biden made for not firing a grossly incompetent DHS Secretary.” Similarly, Governor Newsom tweeted, “KRISTI NOEM MUST RESIGN.”

In a show of bipartisan criticism, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, a Democrat from New York, along with other House members, has threatened impeachment proceedings if Noem does not leave her position promptly.

Even some Republican senators have joined the chorus for her dismissal. Thom Tillis of North Carolina and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska have raised their voices against her leadership.

In contrast, President Donald Trump has expressed his support for Noem, insisting that she is doing a “very good job” in securing the border. He has indicated that he has no intentions of asking her to resign.

Noem commented, “Clearly, there’s a history there of attacking our law enforcement officers, including CBP and ICE officers.”

The former South Dakota governor suggested that Pretti’s behavior represents the daily hostility federal agents often face in Minnesota. “That’s an example of what our officers have to confront. Riots are attacking our officers not just when performing their duties but even during their off hours at hotels and restaurants,” she explained. “They have had their lives and families’ lives threatened.”

As the tension escalates, her comments have drawn commitments from House Republicans, who denounce the impeachment resolutions as partisan stunts. They emphasize the necessity for a unified approach in handling border security issues.

Noem also touched upon President Trump’s recent change in immigration leadership in Minnesota, specifically mentioning Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino’s replacement with “border czar” Tom Homan. “I’m grateful that the president had the insight to send Tom Homan to have discussions again with the leaders of Governor Walz and Mayor Frey to reinforce our commitment to honoring detainers and ensuring the safety of our officers while they perform their duties,” she stated during her interview.

Moreover, Noem has made calls for improved collaboration from local leaders, addressing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Mayor Jacob Frey directly. She urged them to reconsider their approach to rhetoric, saying, “I would tell them to be leaders and to change their rhetoric, which is encouraging the kind of violence we see on their streets today.”

Noem expressed her hope that, with Homan’s involvement, they could work together to enhance safety measures and effectively remove dangerous criminals from the streets of Minneapolis. “That’s all we want,” she added.

She emphasized, “We believe that we can always do better, and we strive to do that each day.
