Sean “Diddy” Combs finds himself at the center of a closely watched federal trial, with jurors deadlocked as they navigate the complex charges against the music mogul. After nearly two months of testimony, the jury has reached a verdict on four of the five charges, yet remains unable to agree on a racketeering charge—a critical element of the prosecution’s case.
On Tuesday, following approximately 14 hours of deliberations, jurors informed Judge Arun Subramanian that they could not come to a unanimous decision regarding the racketeering charge. This count represents one of the gravest allegations against Diddy, under the federal Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, which could lead to significant prison time.
Over the course of the trial, the prosecution presented testimony from more than 30 witnesses, painting a picture of alleged criminal activity claimed to span decades. “When a defense team chooses to forgo calling witnesses, the implication is often that the defendant lacks a substantial defense,” Gowdy commented, emphasizing the jury’s need for reasonable doubt. He expressed concern that without presenting a solid defense, the jury might struggle with the prosecution’s burden of proof.
Last week in court, Diddy affirmed that the decision not to testify in his own defense was entirely his. He confirmed to the judge that he comprehensively discussed his rights with his attorney before concluding, “It was solely my decision.
