Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson currently represent the only quarterbacks under contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers as they prepare for the upcoming season.

He stated, “Coach Mike Tomlin, Mr. Omar Khan, and Mr. Art Rooney all hopped on the phone with me Sunday, and it just felt homey. It felt welcoming that they wanted to bring me to this historic organization. Everything just snowballed from there and brought me here in front of you today.”
Although Metcalf enjoyed a productive last season, finishing with 992 receiving yards, he acknowledged that the decision regarding the quarterback ultimately lies with the team leadership.
He conveyed his confidence in the Steelers’ decision-making regarding their quarterback choice. Metcalf mentioned that discussions with Tomlin and other personnel made him feel assured about their future plans.
“They made me feel like they had the right decision with who was going to be throwing me the football,” Metcalf told the assembled media, as reported by ESPN. “I’m not making the decision in the quarterback room. So, I’m just going to try to do the best of my abilities to help whoever they have out there throwing the football. They make the correct decisions to bring the quarterback in here. So, I’m just going to roll with that.”
Heading into the 2025 season, the Steelers’ wide receiver lineup, including Metcalf, George Pickens, and Calvin Austin III, is poised for a promising year.
Notably, Metcalf wore jersey number 14 during his six years with the Seattle Seahawks. However, because Pickens already established himself in the same number, Metcalf has decided to switch to number 4.
He noted, “I mean, he’s been here, he’s made a staple in the No. 14. I’m not trying to take away from anybody’s legacy; I’m just trying to help build mine.”
The Steelers concluded the 2024 regular season with a respectable 10-7 record, but their playoff aspirations fell short as they were eliminated in the wildcard round.
