Nearly four decades after then-Governor Bill Clinton reportedly expressed interest in Charlie Sheen’s girlfriend on a film set, Dolly Fox has come forward to reaffirm the incident. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, she stated, ‘That is true … That did happen.’
The incident took place during the filming of ‘Three for the Road’ in 1987. At that time, the cast visited the Arkansas governor’s mansion where this intriguing moment unfolded.
In his recent memoir, ‘The Book of Sheen,’ Charlie Sheen recounted an encounter in which Clinton leaned in and whispered to an aide, ‘Find out what you can about the brunette.’ Sheen later revealed that the ‘brunette’ in question was Dolly Fox.
Speaking publicly about the moment for the first time, Fox supported Sheen’s recollections. ‘We were in Arkansas, 1987, shooting a movie … We did go to the governor’s mansion,’ she recalled. With a hint of laughter in her voice, she added, ‘It wasn’t creepy. Clinton was never creepy … He did not do anything wrong to me.’
Fox recalled shaking Clinton’s hand and exchanging pleasantries, although she admitted, ‘I wasn’t looking at the governor. I was in love with Charlie.’
Fox described her interaction with Clinton as innocent. ‘He was never a creep. I have the utmost respect for the Clintons … you know, it’s the 80s. Guys saw a pretty girl, they flirted. It’s no big deal. He didn’t do anything wrong to me.’
However, Sheen’s interpretation of the event in his memoir carries a different tone. He reflected on how the behavior that would later define a notorious scandal involving a White House intern had its origins much earlier. ‘It was quite the moment in time to be ringside for that slice of creepy history,’ he mused, while expressing his concern for Fox being objectified.
Throughout her conversation, Fox defended Clinton’s character and highlighted the deep ties between their families. She explained that her mother, the late Yolande Fox, who was Miss America in 1951 and an accomplished social activist, enjoyed a close friendship with Clinton’s mother, Virginia Kelly.
‘When I next saw Hillary and the president, I was with my mother, and we were at the White House. We were always friends and friendly,’ Fox reminisced.
As time passed, Fox continued to visit the White House with her daughter. ‘The Clintons were welcoming and sweet,’ she recalled fondly.
Fox elaborated on the long-standing connections between their families, stating, ‘My mother and Clinton’s mother would go to the racetrack together. Yolande even hosted one of Clinton’s official inaugural parties in Washington, D.C.’
Additionally, Fox mentioned her close relationship with Elizabeth Ward, Miss America 1982, who later alleged an encounter with Clinton. Such connections form a surprising backdrop to a story that intertwines Hollywood glamour with political intrigue.
Despite their social ties, Fox admitted she had not thought about the encounter with Clinton until Sheen referenced it in his memoir. ‘There was no Me Too movement yet, so I was used to it. I laughed it off,’ she stated.
Reflecting on the incident, Fox acknowledged that it might appear differently from Sheen’s perspective, saying, ‘It was maybe creepy for Charlie, but I grew up around politics. I guess having somebody recognize your girlfriend could be creepy if they’re in a position of power.’
Yet she was quick to clarify, ‘It was definitely not a Monica Lewinsky moment. Let’s put it that way.’
Sheen, a star of ‘Two and a Half Men,’ added that he had attempted to share this story back in 1999 while in rehab but felt unheard. ‘I was still pretty faded on detox meds and no one believed me,’ he penned in his memoir. ‘I literally said out loud to the group huddled around the TV, ‘It’s cool, I’ll put it in a book one day, and you can all go f— yourselves. (And here we are).’
As Fox reflected on her past relationship with Sheen, she expressed pride in him today. ‘My relationship with Charlie Sheen, I was his girlfriend for about two and a half years,’ she explained. ‘It was like the beginning of his fame, and it was before he really started doing hard drugs.’
Although they eventually parted ways, Fox emphasized their enduring friendship. ‘We did remain friends, and I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for that family,’ she shared.
Now, as Sheen embarks on a new chapter with his memoir and documentary, Fox remains supportive of his journey. ‘I’m incredibly proud of Charlie, because he’s really taking accountability. It’s very brave what he’s done, and I just take my hat off to him,’ she said, underscoring her unwavering respect for the actor.
