Former President Donald Trump is set to make an appearance at the New York Yankees game in the Bronx on September 11, marking the 24th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to sources close to the matter.
The Yankees, who are currently engaged in a competitive race for the American League East title, will host the Detroit Tigers, leaders of the American League Central. This matchup is being viewed as a potential preview of the postseason, heightening anticipation among fans and players alike.
While Donald Trump has been known to attend various sporting events throughout his career, this will be his first baseball game since assuming the presidency for a second time. Historically, he has participated in notable events, such as Game 5 of the World Series in 2019 and the Astros-Braves World Series in 2021, after he lost to Joe Biden in the 2020 election.
Back in 2020, Trump announced his intention to throw out the first pitch at a Yankees game; however, this plan never materialized due to his focus on the COVID-19 pandemic.
Before his political career took off, Trump exhibited his love for baseball by attending Game 7 of the National League Championship Series at Shea Stadium, where the New York Mets faced the St. Louis Cardinals.
This year, the Yankees faced the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series but ultimately fell short, losing the championship in five games. Excitement builds within the Yankees organization and their supporters as they prepare for the upcoming game.
Coinciding with Trump’s attendance at the game, Vice President JD Vance is expected to represent the administration at a memorial ceremony at Ground Zero in Manhattan. Meanwhile, Trump plans to attend an event at the Pentagon earlier that day, ensuring that he commemorates this significant anniversary in multiple locations.
Looking ahead, Trump has also confirmed his attendance at the Ryder Cup in New York on September 26, underscoring his ongoing engagement with significant sporting events. Notably, he previously attended the FIFA Club World Cup championship in July at MetLife Stadium.
Next year, the Yankees and the Mets will play a game at Yankee Stadium on September 11 to pay tribute to the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Similar commemorative events took place in 2021 at Citi Field, where the Mets wore special
