FIRST ON FOX – Data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection indicates a striking decline in apprehensions at the U.S.-Mexico border, which have decreased by 93% under the administration of President Donald Trump. This significant reduction was revealed in statistics shared on Monday.
The CBP reported a daily average of 279 apprehensions at the southern border during April, a sharp contrast to the 4,297 apprehensions recorded in April 2024. Overall, this year’s April total stands at 8,383, markedly down from last year’s staggering figure of 129,000.
Additionally, CBP officials highlighted a noteworthy reduction in the number of illegal aliens temporarily released into the U.S. during April, with just five individuals granted such status compared to a staggering 68,000 in the same month last year.
According to Pete Flores, the acting commissioner of CBP, “For the first time in years, more agents are back in the field – patrolling areas that CBP didn’t have the capacity to oversee just six months ago. Thanks to this administration’s dramatic shift in security posture at our border, we are now witnessing operational control becoming a reality – and this is only the beginning.”
The CBP’s report outlines a continuation of the administration’s efforts to control border security, showcasing a historic low in southwest border crossings. March recorded the fewest apprehensions in history, with less activity in the entire month than during the initial couple of days of April 2024 under the Biden administration.
Border Patrol apprehended a total of 7,181 illegal aliens attempting to cross the southern border between ports of entry in March. This figure marks a 14% decline from February when agents arrested 8,346 aliens, and a dramatic 95% drop when compared to the 137,473 apprehensions recorded under the Biden administration in the same March period of 2024.
The report also notes a rise in drug seizures, with a 15% increase from March to April. Officials confiscated approximately 758 pounds of fentanyl attempting to cross the border last month, emphasizing ongoing challenges related to drug trafficking.
“Aliens are receiving the Trump administration’s message: if you cross the border illegally, you will be deported,” CBP stated in its latest report.
